Abstract
There is a growing interest in the area of self-healing systems. Self-healing does however impose considerable demands on system infrastructures - Especially in terms of openness and support for reconfigurability. This paper proposes that the self-awareness inherent in reflective technologies lends itself well to the construction of self-healing systems. In particular, the paper examines the support provided by the Open ORB reflective middleware technology for the construction of this increasingly important class of system.

Abstract
A simulation characterization with FEM was made, showing that the HiBi fibre was sensitive to different applied load angles. As such, the experimental data for transversal strain was assessed and the obtained sensibility values were in accordance with the simulation results. The collected data enable the complete characterization of the HiBi FBG, showing its capability to be used as a multiparameter sensor.

Lowest order constrained variational and local density approximation approach to the hot alpha particle

Abstract
The free energy of an alpha particle is calculated using the local density approximation in the harmonic oscillator basis. The effective two-body interactions are generated from the lowest order constrained variational (LOCV) calculation for nuclear matter at finite temperature, with the Reid and ?-Reid potentials. The Fermi?Dirac distribution is used to calculate the entropy and the occupation probability of each state of alpha particle at a given temperature. The effective mass is treated as a variational parameter. Our zero temperature results with the ?-Reid interaction agree well with the experimental saturation data of alpha particle and the other many-body techniques. The flashing temperature of ˜5 MeV is found, which is consistent with experimental evidence. It is concluded that a similar liquid?gas phase transition to that of nuclear matter is most probable in the alpha particle and heavier nuclei. PACS Nos.: 21.65+f, 21.10-k, 21.10Dr, 21.60-n

An Euler-Lagrange inclusion for optimal control problems with state constraints

Abstract
New first-order necessary conditions for optimality for control problems with pathwise state constraints are given. These conditions are a variant of a nonsmooth maximum principle which includes a joint subdifferential of the Hamiltonian - a condition called Euler-Lagrange inclusion (ELI). The main novelty of the result provided here is the ability to address state constraints while using an ELI. The ELI conditions have a number of desirable properties. Namely, they are, in some cases, able to convey more information about minimizers, and for the normal convex problems they are sufficient conditions of optimality. It is shown that these strengths are retained in the presence of state constraints.
