The paper entitled “Industrial IoT integrated with simulation – A digital twin approach to support real-time decision making”, written by Romão Santos and João Basto, researchers of INESC TEC’s Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE), alongside Américo Azevedo, also Coordinator of CESE, was awarded the Best Track Paper Award in the 3rd edition of the European International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM), which was held between 23 and 26 July in Pilsen, in Czech Republic.

During the month of July, INESC TEC's Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) promoted another edition of the Summer Internship’s initiative, welcoming a group of students from the Faculty of Engineering (FEUP) and Faculty of Sciences (FCUP) of the University of Porto and also from the School of Engineering of Polytechnic Institute of Porto (ISEP).

Last May and June, a team of researchers of INESC TEC's Centre for Robotics and Autonomous Systems (CRAS), composed of José Miguel Almeida, Carlos Almeida, Alfredo Martins, Ricardo Pereira, Eduardo Soares and Denys Sytnyk, participated with two underwater robots in two exploration missions, in a flooded mine in Ecton (the United Kingdom) and in a submerged cave of Molnar Janos.

Within the framework of the recently adopted European project InterConnect, INESC TEC participated in the 9th edition of IoT Week, which was held between 17 and 21 June in Aarhus, Denmark. INESC TEC is the leading partner of this project, which will officially start in October of 2019.

The issue and use of the driving licence in smartphones and other mobile devices, with integrity and authenticity assurances of information, user privacy and interoperability between different countries, will give rise to an international standard ISO 18013-5, which was debated in the meeting of the working group of the International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) that took place between 1 and 4 July at INESC TEC’s headquarters, in Porto.

On 20 July of 1969, the American astronaut Neil Armstrong walked on the moon for the first time. The University of Porto (U.Porto), along with INESC TEC, intended to mark the anniversary of the first moon landing with a number of activities, including an exhibition entitled “50 anos da Chegada do Homem à Lua” (in English “50 years since the arrival of man on the moon”).
