Abstract
This paper presents an approach to reliability evaluation of generation/transmission power systems using the Monte Carlo simulation method. In this approach uncertainties are represented using two different frameworks. For one side, probability concepts are used to represent the failure-repair cycle of system components. Loads are represented through classified load diagrams in which each time step corresponds to a fuzzy number. This simulation method allows the user to obtain estimates of the expected exposure and robustness indices and of the Power Not Supplied membership function.

Abstract
This paper describes the implementation of a wireless data acquisition network for agricultural applications based on the Microchip PIC16C71, and the Intel 87C592 microcontrollers. The system uses a set of solar powered wireless data-acquisition stations (SPWAS) linked by radio frequency to a base station (BS). The base station has as main functions the control of the data-acquisition stations and the storage of the data collected by them. The network has been applied to collect outdoor and indoor climate data from a set of greenhouses located at Universidade de Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), in the northwest of Portugal. Experimental tests are being done since mid June 1996, and the results obtained shows that the communications to the BS station were performed without errors and no loss of data.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE 35TH IEEE CONFERENCE ON DECISION AND CONTROL, VOLS 1-4

Abstract
The deregulation of the electricity industry places a number of complex questions related namely with planning and operating activities. In this paper one will enumerate some of these issues and give an overview about the way this process is being handled in several countries. In the paper one will also describe a methodology to identify the most adequate components to be reinforced considering that one aims at reducing the risk felt by the planner if loads are modeled by fuzzy numbers. At the end, fuzzy concepts are integrated in a model to validate from a technical point of view a set of trades established between electricity buyers and sellers in a competitive environment.

Abstract
One important problem in the design of novel logic programming systems is the support of several forms of implicit parallelism. A new binding model, the Sparse Binding Array (SBA), has been proposed for the efficient and simplified integration of Independent-And, Determinate-And and Or-parallelism. In this paper we report on the use of this model for pure Or-parallelism. The work discusses the major implementation issues in supporting this binding model for pure Or-parallelism. We show that an implementation based on this Binding model is more efficient then the original Aurora using tbe traditional Binding Array model [16]. Moreover, we explain how the notion of a variable level can be used to reduce overheads of the Orparallel system. Our results in supporting pure or-parallelism show that the approach is very promissing for combined paralell systems.

Abstract
In this paper one reviews some concepts related to fuzzy load modeling namely dealing with correlated and uncorrelated models. After briefly describing DC and AC fuzzy power flow models, one addresses the problem of integrating information about correlations between node consumptions or injections in these models. This information will lead to a correction phase performed after running the previous models. This correction phase is organized as a linear programming problem solved in a very efficient way as one takes advantage of the special structure of the problem. The methodology will be illustrated using a case study based on the IEEE 24 bus/38 branch Test System.
