Abstract
Computer technology for process support using transaction processing has a long tradition, but with mixed results. Tn a fast changing environment like nowadays, traditional information systems approaches need to be upgraded with workflow management technology. Telework, considered as an innovative work organisation-form for new decentralised organisational structures, further call for the use of workflow management technology. Currently there is no co-ordination tool with specific planning functionality for this purpose. This paper presents the approach taken to engineering of a workflow management system, supporting the co-ordination of decentralised telework activities through telework activity chain model execution.

Research and experimentation project for horticulture and fish production using renewable energies

Abstract
In this paper it will be presented the aims and some of the results obtained in the project entitled "Development of Solutions for Instrumentation, Control and Management Applied to Agricultural and Fish Production Using Renewable Energies", sponsored by the Agriculture Ministry of Portugal. The experimental set-up is composed of three demonstration greenhouses and six aquaculture tanks for production of green beans, tomatoes and tilapias. Several actuators and sensors are connected to an acquisition and control network developed at the Engineering Department of the University of Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro, Vila Real. The environmental factors controlled are: greenhouse inside air temperature and humidity, CO(2) concentration, and soil moisture. Dissolved O(2), pH, temperature and water nitrate concentration are also controlled in the fish tanks. Three types of heating systems are being used on the greenhouses and aquaculture tanks: a geothermal water source, a solar heat pump and a wood-gas combined heater. At the end of this project it is expected to achieve an efficient control in order to maximize the ratio production/costs. This implies the use of a supervisory module to perform high level management decisions. At this level, a decision support system helps the producer to establish the chemical treatment plans. This will also help to reduce environmental contamination as well production costs.

Abstract
In this paper several concepts related to the application of Monte Carlo simulation to evaluate reliability indices of composite power systems are reviewed. In the sequence of previous papers, one integrates in the Monte Carlo simulation a DC Fuzzy Optimal Power Flow model to cope with uncertainties in peak loads. This general framework is now enhanced as one can specify fuzzy load duration curves, uncertainties in repair and failure rates and can adopt either non-chronological or chronological sampling strategies. This package can thus be used to evaluate the impact in the expected values of Power and Energy Not Supplied of uncertainties affecting several variables and parameters.

On the concept of Instantaneous Frequency

Abstract
The concept of Instantaneous Frequency is still not clearly defined. Current operational definitions give rise to physical paradoxes, difficulting proper interpretation of the obtained results. In this paper, we discuss why those paradoxes appear, and show how they can be avoided. We introduce a new definition of Instantaneous Frequency, which yields physically consistent results. This is confirmed with the help of several examples.

Towards a silicon implementation of the olfactory system

Abstract
Our main interest is the development of a computational efficient VLSI implementation of a highly complex system proposed by Freeman to explain chaotic dynamics in the olfactory cortex using discrete time techniques. One of the issues involved with this implementation approach is the offset. This paper presents a simulation of a novel circuit for offset cancellation in Switch Current circuits. According to simulation results, this new technique is able to cancel the offset and has a low sensitivity to changes in feedback parameters associated with the delay (z-1) operation.
