Fuzzy engineering economic analysis

Abstract
This paper presents an approach for including nonstatistical uncertainties in engineering economic analysis, particularly utility economic analysis, by modeling uncertain variables with fuzzy numbers. In this case, the mathematical operations are defined by the extension principle and the results obtained are also in a form of fuzzy numbers. This approach can be seen as an extension of a previously proposed one that uses interval numbers and interval analysis for including such uncertainties. However, this paper considers also the dependence which may exist between the fuzzy variables and shows the impact this dependence may have on the results. In this context, a way of modeling partial correlation between the variables of the same kind is proposed.

Mapping synchronisation protocols onto RT CORBA

Abstract
RT CORBA has been specified with the intention of supporting real-time (RT) distributed applications using diverse scheduling, resource access and synchronisation protocols. This work analyses how two specific synchronisation protocols may be implemented over RT CORBA, and concludes that it is not possible if the spirit of the RT CORBA specification is to be followed, and unless current operating system services are augmented. We propose several changes to make this mapping possible. © 2000 IEEE.

Automatic synthesis of data storage and control structures for FPGA-based computing engines

Abstract
Mapping computations written in high-level programming languages to FPGA-based computing engines requires programmers to create the datapath responsible for the core of the computation as well as the control structures to generate the appropriate signals to orchestrate its execution. This paper addresses the issue of automatic generation of data storage and control structures for FPGA-based reconfigurable computing engines using existing compiler data dependence analysis techniques. We describe a set of parameterizable data storage and control structures used as the target of our prototype compiler. We present a compiler analysis algorithm to derive the parameters of the data storage structures to minimize the required memory bandwidth of the implementation. We also describe a complete compilation scheme for mapping loops that manipulate multi-dimensional array variables to hardware. We present preliminary simulation results for complete designs generated manually using the results of the compiler analysis. These preliminary, results show that is possible to successfully integrate compiler data dependence analysis with existing commercial synthesis tools. © 2000 IEEE.

Tracking and identifying in real time the robots of a F-180 team

Abstract
This paper describes the method employed to track and identify each robot during a Robocup match. Also, the playing ball is tracked with almost no extra processing effort. To track the robots it is necessary the use of adequate markers so that not only the position is extracted but also the heading. We discuss the difficulties associated with this problem, various possible approaches and justify our solution. The identification is performed thanks to a minimalist bar code placed in each robot. The bar code solves the problem of resolving some ambiguities that can arise in certain configurations. The procedure described can be executed in real time as it was shown in Paris in RoboCup-98.
