The workflow-enabled supply chain, the Civil Construction Enterprise case study

Abstract
This paper presents on-going research in the supply-chain management area. With this effort, we aim at bridging the gap between business process modelling in the supply chain and business process co-ordination by means of innovative workflow management tools. In this context we present the Supply Chain Operation Reference Model (SCOR) and illustrate its usage in a Civil Construction Enterprise case study. The civil construction enterprise presents, usually, a distributed organisational structure (strategic enterprise, construction sites, warehouses, head-offices, etc.), and operates in a transient and variable environment, according to the collection of works in progress. A common scenario is the construction process that involves the interaction with several suppliers and the co-ordination of many smaller firms (subcontractors), normally coordinated by one contractor. The relationship with the enterprise suppliers as well as between contractor and sub-contractor features a clear Source-Make-Deliver and Return pattern, demanding coordination and interoperability along those processes that cross the enterprise boundaries. The SCOR model process-orientation greatly facilitates supply chain business process decomposition, fostering therefore greater effectiveness process integration along the supply chain, The paper concludes with a proposal of new business process management concepts to be supported by novel distributed workflow management tools.

Encoding linear logic with interaction combinators

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how Lafont's interaction combinators, a system of three symbols and six interaction rules, can be used to encode linear logic. Specifically, we give a translation of the multiplicative, exponential, and additive fragments of linear logic together with a strategy for cut-elimination which can be faithfully simulated. Finally, we show briefly how this encoding can be used for evaluating lambda-terms. In addition to offering a very simple, perhaps the simplest, system of rewriting for linear logic and the lambda-calculus, the interaction net implementation that we present has been shown by experimental testing to offer a good level of sharing in terms of the number of cut-elimination Steps (resp. beta-reduction steps). In particular it performs better than all extant finite systems of interaction nets. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science (USA).

Functional in-circuit characterisation of Sigma Delta modulators

Abstract
A method for the in-circuit functional testing of SigmaDelta modulators is described which can be built in large integrated circuits or systems-on-chip. It allows for measuring gain and phase, as well as total harmonic distortion and signal to noise and harmonic distortion ratio parameters. This method can be built in-circuit using existing computational resources, such as digital signal processors or (re)configurable logic, which can therefore be used to implement both mission and test operations. Both simulation and experimental results were obtained which are in close agreement with those expected from the theory.

Movement quantification in epileptic seizures: A new approach to video-EEG analysis

Abstract
It is common that epileptic seizures induce uncoordinated movement in a patient's body. This movement is a relevant clinical factor in seizure identification. Nevertheless, quantification of this information has not been an object of much attention from the scientific community. In this paper, we present our effort in developing a new approach to the quantification of movement patterns in patients during epileptic seizures. We attach markers at landmark points of a patient's body and use a camera and a commercial video-electroencephalogram (EEG) system to synchronously register EEG and video during seizures. Then, we apply image-processing techniques to analyze the video frames and extract the trajectories of those points that represent the course of the quantified movement of different body parts. This information may help clinicians in seizure classification. We describe the framework of our system and a method of analyzing video in order to achieve the proposed goal. Our experimental results show that our method can reflect quantified motion patterns of epileptic seizures, which cannot be accessed by means of traditional visual inspection of video recordings. We were able, for the first time, to quantify the movement of different parts of a convulsive human body in the course of an epileptic seizure. This result represents an enhanced value to clinicians in studying seizures for reaching a diagnosis.
