Abstract
The escalating number of wind power plants in many countries makes their reliability and safety of crucial importance. One of the main causes of damages for wind power plants is constituted by lightning. Hence, appropriate tools for the lightning protection of wind power plants are required. We have developed a new computer program in Visual Basic, LPS 2008, which runs over AutoCAD and is able to perform risk assessment on a structure or on a service due to lightning flashes to ground. Computer simulations obtained by using LPS 2008 are presented, and conclusions are duly drawn.

Abstract
This paper is divided into four parts: the first one introduces SADEX, a fuzzy Case Based Reasoning (CBR) System for fault diagnosis. The second focus on its observation relevance factors and shows how the results are in complete agreement with the relevance concept introduced by Robertson and Spark-Jones in their well known and proved technique for document retrieval. The third describes how equipment composition information can be used to generalize and adapt case solutions to new and unknown occurrences; this generalization is based on a taxonomic similarity between functionally autonomous modules (FAMs). Finally the MKM-Maintenance Knowledge Manager system is introduced.

Abstract
The corner stone of the interoperability of eLearning systems is the standard definition of learning objects. Nevertheless, for some domains this standard is insufficient to fully describe all the assets, especially when they are used as input for other eLearning services. On the other hand, a standard definition of learning objects in not enough to ensure interoperability among eLearning systems; they must also use a standard API to exchange learning objects. This paper presents the design and implementation of a service oriented repository of learning objects called crimsonHex. This repository is fully compliant with the existing interoperability standards and supports new definitions of learning objects for specialized domains. We illustrate this feature with the definition of programming problems as learning objects and its validation by the repository. This repository is also prepared to store usage data on learning objects to tailor the presentation order and adapt it to learner profiles.

Abstract
Part of the University of Campinas (UNICAMP, www.unicamp.br), the Interdisciplinary Nucleus of Sound Communication (NICS, www.nics.unicamp.br) was founded in 1983 by the composer Raul do Valle and collaborators. Since then, NICS has maintained a longstanding list of participations in the academic and artistic musical scenario, specially the ones concerning the application of mathematical models and computing technology in sound synthesis methods and electroacoustic music composition. Here we describe the major activities that NICS has been recently engaged with, specially in the areas of interactive performance, computer music, robotics, evolutionary computation applied to musical creation and, recently, physiologic signals acquisition for the retrieval of cognitive and emotive musical features. © July 2009- All copyright remains with the individual authors.

Abstract
This paper presents an artificial neural network approach for short-term wind power forecasting in Portugal. The increased integration of wind power into the electric grid, as nowadays occurs in Portugal, poses new challenges due to its intermittency and volatility. Hence, good forecasting tools play a key role in tackling these challenges. The accuracy of the wind power forecasting attained with the proposed approach is evaluated against persistence and ARIMA approaches, reporting the numerical results from a real-world case study.

Abstract
This paper is divided into three parts: the first one introduces SADEX, a fuzzy Case Based Reasoning (CBR) Expert System (ES) for fault diagnosis. The second focus on its observation relevance factors and shows how the results are in entire agreement with the relevance concept introduced by Robertson and Spark-Jones in their well known and proved technique of document retrieval. Finally we describe how the equipment composition information can be used to generalize and adapt case solutions to unknown occurrences. This generalization is based on a taxonomic similarity between functionally autonomous modules (FAM) or components. Some formulae for evaluating this similarity are derived.
