Abstract
This article reports the development of two sensing head configurations based on extrinsic and intrinsic fiber Fabry-Perot interferometers for the detection of incipient faults in oil-filled power transformers. The performances of the sensing heads are characterized and compared with the situations where it operates in air, water, and oil and promising results are obtained, which will allow the industrial development of practical solutions. Abstract
Monitoring applications in onshore oil and gas production environments are usually based on wireless solutions. Most part of nowadays applications rely upon outdated technologies, based on the use of analog radios and inefficient master-slave communication topologies. In this paper, we investigate the use of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technologies to monitor oil and gas production environments. More specifically, we consider a mesh topology for the communication network and we analyze the performance of three different routing algorithms: the classic AODV algorithm, an hierarchical routing algorithm and our own proposed version of a simplified AODV. A simulation assessment of these 3 algorithms is done using the Network Simulator NS-2, upon data from a real topology of onshore oil wells monitoring. © 2010 IEEE.

Abstract
We revisit the notion of computational depth and sophistication for infinite sequences and study the density of the sets of deep and sophisticated infinite sequences. Koppel defined he sophistication of an object as the length of the shortest total program that, given some data as input, produces the object and such that the sum of the size of the program with the size of the data is as concise as the smallest description of the object. However, the notion of sophistication is not properly defined for all sequences. We propose a new definition of sophistication for infinite sequences as the limit of the ratio of the sophistication of the initial segments and its length. We prove that the set of sequences with sophistication equal to zero has Lebesgue measure one and that the set of sophisticated sequences is dense, when the sophistication is, respectively, defined either using lim inf or lim sup. Antunes, Fortnow, van Melkebeek and Vinodchandran captured the notion of useful information by computational depth, the difference between time bounded and unbounded Kolmogorov complexities. We show that the set of deep infinite sequences is dense. We also prove that sophistication and depth for infinite sequences are distinct information measures.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to contribute to a better understanding of the determinants of public service quality. Firstly, it explores the relationships that develop during the public service encounter between the citizen, the public organization and society. Secondly, citizen satisfaction and dissatisfaction with public services are both investigated. Furthermore, the paper emphasizes the importance of managing emotions in public services. Finally, it also considers how the quality assessment of public services should take into account implications regarding value to society. The outcome is a holistic model for assessing the quality of public services. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.

Abstract
In modern daily life people need to move, whether in business or leisure, sightseeing or addressing a meeting. Often this is done in familiar environments, but in some cases we need to find our way in unfamiliar scenarios. Visual impairment is a factor that greatly reduces mobility. Currently, the most widespread and used means by the visually impaired people are the white stick and the guide dog; however both present some limitations. With the recent advances in inclusive technology it is possible to extend the support given to people with visual impairment during their mobility. In this context we propose a system, named SmartVision, whose global objective is to give blind users the ability to move around in unfamiliar environments, whether indoor or outdoor, through a user friendly interface that is fed by a geographic information system (GIS). In this paper we propose the development of an electronic white cane that helps moving around, in both indoor and outdoor environments, providing contextualized geographical information using RFID technology. © 2010 TSI Press.

Abstract
The digitalization of youth signifies their complete immersion, active participation and involvement in the production, consumption and sharing of digital content using various interconnected/interfaced digital devices in their social network interactions. A prerequisite to successful commercial communication with young people is having a good understanding of new media, along with their social and psychological framework. The behaviour, motivation and emotions of youth in general and in relation to digital technologies, especially the meaning attached to mobile phones, the Internet (mainly social network sites) and games (computer-based and portable) should also be addressed if advertisers aim to reach this target group. © 2011, IGI Global.
