Abstract
Automatic classification of cancer lesions in tissues observed using gastroenterology imaging is a non-trivial pattern recognition task involving filtering, segmentation, feature extraction and classification. In this paper we measure the impact of a variety of segmentation algorithms (mean shift, normalized cuts, level-sets) on the automatic classification performance of gastric tissue into three classes: cancerous, precancerous and normal. Classification uses a combination of color (hue-saturation histograms) and texture (local binary patterns) features, applied to two distinct imaging modalities: chromoendoscopy and narrow-band imaging. Results show that mean-shift obtains an interesting performance for both scenarios producing low classification degradations (6%), full image classification is highly inaccurate reinforcing the importance of segmentation research for Gastroenterology, and confirm that Patch Index is an interesting measure of the classification potential of small to medium segmented regions.

Abstract
This paper presents a study of the heterogeneity and interoperability of Information Systems (IS) that exist in Northern Portuguese Hospitals. Structured interviews to each Hospital CIO were performed regarding their opinions, existing IS and integrations. The number of IS is exponentially related of the dimension of the hospital (number of beds), and the relation between the number of IS and the number of integrations follows an exponential model. The ratio between the number of effective integrations and the total possibilities is very low and follows a quadratic model, indicating that the energy spent grows rapidly with the increase of IS number and with poor results. Admission/discharge/transfer and drug related IS are installed more often, and therefore are better candidates for a regional network. Despite numerous efforts to develop standards, it seems that there is a large gap between their development and their applicability. Interoperability inside organizations is a crucial first step, looking for the goal of achieving regional and national EHR. Standardization is vital considering the number of IS and multitude of organizations involved.

Abstract
Skeletal muscle presents an internal fibrous structure. The existence of muscle fibers surrounded by interstitial fluid originates an internal step refractive index profile that causes light scattering. One way to minimize this effect inside a muscle is to perform an optical clearing treatment, using an adequate solution that presents a refractive index higher than the interstitial fluid. We have studied muscle spectral transmittance during sample immersion in propylene glycol. With the collection of transmittance spectra registered during a period of 20 minutes of immersion we could represent spectral transmittance evolution for several wavelengths and verify that the tissue samples have become more translucent. The optical clearing effect created in the tissue samples was characterized by an increase of 45% above the natural transmittance and the variations observed in tissue mass, pH and global refractive index. We also identified the initial mechanisms of agent diffusion into the tissue and consequent tissue dehydration from the spectral transmittance evolution. The histological analysis of variations caused in the internal structure of the tissues permitted to better explain the optical clearing effect created. Considering a mathematical model developed in previous studies, we could estimate the amount of agent that was inserted into the tissue samples.

Abstract
In this paper it is studied the relation between the angle of attack and the velocity of the bird, the tail influence over the bird trajectory, the gliding and the flapping flight in a closed loop with fractional order controllers. The results are positive for the design and construction of flying robots having similarities with flying animals. The development of computational simulation based on the dynamic of the robotic bird that should allow testing strategies and algorithms of control.
