PHOTONIC CRYSTAL FIBERS IV
Abstract
In this work, we demonstrate the possibility of fabricating short LPGs and rocking filters in highly birefringent Photonic Crystal Fiber using CO(2) laser. In our experiments both kinds of gratings were made in the same Boron doped highly birefringent PCF using similar exposure parameters. We also present the sensing capabilities of both fabricated gratings to temperature, strain and hydrostatic pressure by interrogation of the wavelength shifts at the different resonances.

Abstract
MORSE is a set of tools developed for the Spanish electrical utility Endesa, for long term simulation and strategic analysis of the Spanish electricity sector. MORSE has three different types of modules: forecasting modules, to model the main businesses of the sector, data preparation modules, to define the sector structure, to import data from other Endesa planning tools and to prepare it for the forecasting modules, and analysis and reports modules, to prepare simulation scenarios to be feed to the forecasting modules, execute them, and collect and organize their outputs in appropriate reports. The pool simulation model of the system, EQUITEC, is a Conjectured Supply Function Equilibrium, where generation companies are represented at a technology level, and conjectures are endogenously computed under hypothesis of local linearity near the equilibrium point. The inclusion in EQUITEC of network and zonal constraints is currently being analyzed. © 2010 IEEE.

ROLE OF DIGITAL LIBRARIES IN A TIME OF GLOBAL CHANGE
Abstract
Strategies developed for database preservation in the past include technology preservation, migration, emulation and the use of a universal virtual computer. In this paper we present a new concept of "Model Migration for Database Preservation". Our proposed approach involves two major activities. First, migrating the database model from conventional relational model to dimensional model and second, calculating the information embedded in code and preserving it instead of preserving the code required to calculate it. This will affect the originality of the database but improve two other characteristics: the information considered relevant is kept in a simple and easier to understand format and the systematic process to preserve the dimensional model is independent of the DBMS details and application logic.
