Renewable Energy and Power Quality Journal

Abstract
This paper focuses on single-diode photovoltaic cell models. Comprehensive simulation studies are carried out in order to adequately assess temperature dependence, solar radiation change, diode ideality factor and series resistance influence. A comparison between an ideal model single-diode solar cell and a model of single-diode solar cell with a series resistance is also presented. Finally, conclusions are duly drawn.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE IEEE

Abstract
This paper presents a conceptual framework to successfully integrate electric vehicles into electric power systems. The proposed framework covers two different domains: the grid technical operation and the electricity markets environment. All the players involved in both these processes, as well as their activities, are described in detail. Additionally, several simulations are presented in order to illustrate the potential impacts/benefits arising from the electric vehicles grid integration under the referred framework, comprising steady-state and dynamic behavior analysis.

EARTH RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENTAL REMOTE SENSING/GIS APPLICATIONS II

Abstract
The geometric correction of images under the scope of remote sensing applications is still mostly a manual work. This is a time and effort consuming task associated with an intra-and inter-operator subjectivity. One of the main reasons may be the lack of a proper evaluation of the different available automatic image registration ( AIR) methods, since some of them are only adequate for certain types of applications/data. In order to fulfill a gap in this context, a first reference dataset of pairs of images comprising some types of geometric distortions was created, different spatial and spectral resolutions, and divided according to the Level 1 of CORINE Land Cover nomenclature ( European Environment Agency). This dataset will allow for gaining perception of the abilities and limitations of some AIR methods. Some AIR methods were evaluated in this work, including the traditional correlation-based method and the SIFT approach, for which a set of measures for an objective evaluation of the geometric correction process quality was computed for every combination of pair of images/AIR method. The reference dataset is available from an internet address, being expected that it becomes a channel of interaction among the remote sensing community interested in this field.

Abstract
This paper describes a new technique aimed at representing wind power forecasting uncertainty by a set of discrete scenarios able to characterize the probability density function of the wind power forecast. From an initial large set of sampled scenarios, a reduced discrete set of representative or focal scenarios associated with a probability of occurrence is created using clustering techniques. The advantage is that this allows reducing the computational burden in stochastic models that require scenario representation. The validity of the reduction methodology has been tested in a simplified Unit Commitment (UC) problem.

Abstract
Devices installed in remote places require continuously energy supply for their functionality or communication requirements. For these applications, conventional energy supply is very expensive, or unreliable, and batteries dependence is not a good solution for long-term installations. Energy harvesting can be a good solution, to increase the availability of energy. Regenerative energy sources like thermoelectric, magnetic, piezoelectric, and/or renewable sources such as photovoltaic, wind, among others, allowed the development of different powering solutions for sensor units. The purpose of this work is to characterize three photovoltaic solar panels for different power consumption sensor applications. The study is carried out taking into account the intensity of light and angle of incidence over the photovoltaic panels versus voltage generated. The energy is stored in an association of supercapacitors. This association together with the solar panel itself forms the two possible sources to supply the sensor application.
