A Game with a Purpose for Building Crowdsourced Semantic Relations Datasets for Named Entities

Abstract
Semantic measures evaluate and compare the strength of relations between entities. To assess their accuracy, semantic measures are compared against human-generated gold standards. Existing semantic gold standards are mainly focused on concepts. Nevertheless, semantic measures are frequently applied both to concepts and instances. Games with a purpose are used to offload to humans computational or data collection needs, improving results by using entertainment as motivation for higher engagement. We present Grettir, a system which allows the creation of crowdsourced semantic relations datasets for named entities through a game with a purpose where participants are asked to compare pairs of entities. We describe the system architecture, the algorithms and implementation decisions, the first implemented instance – dedicated to the comparison of music artists – and the results obtained. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The role of novel clinical digital tools in the screening or diagnosis of Obstructive Sleep Apnea – A systematic review (Preprint)

Abstract
BACKGROUND

Clinical digital tools are an up-and-coming new technology that can be used in the screening or diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients, notwithstanding the crucial role of polysomnography (PSG) – the gold standard.

OBJECTIVE

The aim of our study was to identify, gather, and analyze existing digital tools and smartphone-based health platforms that are being used for this disease’s screening or diagnosis in the adult population.

METHODS

We performed a comprehensive literature search in MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science databases for studies evaluating the validity of digital tools in OSA screening or diagnosis until November 2022. The risk of bias was assessed using JBI Critical Appraisal Tool for Diagnostic Test Accuracy Studies. Sensitivity, specificity, and area under the receiver-operating curve (AUC) were used as discrimination measures.

RESULTS

We retrieved 1714 articles, 41 of which were included. We found 7 smartphone-based tools, 10 wearables, 11 bed/mattress sensors, 5 nasal airflow devices, and 8 other sensors that did not fit the previous categories. Only 8 (20%) studies performed external validation of their developed tool. Of those, the highest reported values for AUC, sensitivity, and specificity were 0.99, 96%, and 92%, respectively, for a clinical cutoff of apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) = 30 and correspond to a non-contact audio recorder that records sleep sounds, which are then analyzed by a deep learning technique that automatically detects sleep apnea events, calculates the AHI, and identifies OSA. Looking at the studies that only internally validated their models, the work that reported the highest accuracy measures showed AUC, sensitivity, and specificity values of 1.00, 100%, and 96%, respectively, for a clinical cutoff AHI = 30. It uses the Sonomat – a foam mattress that, aside from recording breath sounds, has pressure sensors that generate voltage when deformed, thus detecting respiratory movements, and using it to classify OSA events.

CONCLUSIONS

These clinical tools presented promising results, showing high discrimination measures (best results reaching AUC > 0.99). However, there is still a need for quality studies, comparing the developed tools with the gold standard and validating them in external populations and other environments before they can be used in a clinical setting.

Using Supplier Networks to Handle Returns in Online Marketplaces

Abstract
To encourage customers to take a chance in finding the right product, retailers and marketplaces implement benevolent return policies that allow users to return items for free without a specific reason. These policies contribute to a high rate of returns, which result in high shipping costs for the retailer and a high environmental toll on the planet. This paper shows that these negative impacts can be significantly minimized if inventory is exchanged within the supplier network of marketplaces upon a return. We compare the performance of this proposal to the standard policy where items are always sent to the original supplier. Our results show that our proposal-returning to a closer supplier and using a predictive heuristic for fulfilment-can achieve a 16% cost reduction compared to the standard-returning to the original supplier and using a myopic rule for fulfilment.

Innovative Responses to the COVID-19 Pandemic in Primary Healthcare: The Case of the Arte Nova Family Health Unit

Abstract
Primary healthcare (PHC) is a fundamental pillar in a health system, and its role has only been enhanced in the COVID-19 pandemic. The emergence of COVID-19 required health systems and, in particular, PHCs to develop a constant capacity to adapt and resist adversity. Therefore, it was considered important to identify innovative measures and thus the experience of a family health unit (USF) in Portugal - USF Arte Nova (USFAN) was reported. After carrying out a systematic review of the literature and interviews with the Presidents of the Clinical and Health Councils of five Health Centre Groupings, the measures identified were gathered and compared to the ones carried out by USFAN. Subsequently, the study identified the measures considered to be truly original executed by the health unit. Between the measures presented, the use of an access prioritization score was highlighted, as were daily briefing regarding the management of resources and equipment, qualification of the use of personal protective equipment, the project that aimed to optimize the use of paper; the use of a drive-through method to update the National Vaccination Program; and the daily training and sharing of information about COVID-19. In light of the current pandemic, innovative practices and tools have been created and carried out by the healthcare professionals in response to the growing needs of the population. This shows the resilience of these professionals and constitutes an opportunity to share and implement these tools in other health-care facilities highlighting the continuing chance of improving.

Towards an Ontology to Enforce Enterprise Architecture Mining

Abstract
Enterprise Architecture (EA) is a coherent set of principles, methods, and models that express the structure of an enterprise and its IT landscape. EA mining uses data mining techniques to automate EA modelling tasks. Ontologies help to define concepts and the relationships among these concepts to describe a domain of interest This work presents an extensible ontology for EA mining focused on extracting architectural models that use logs from an API gateway as the data source. The proposed ontology was developed using the OntoUML language to ensure its quality and avoid anti-patterns through ontology rule checks. Then, a hypothesized scenario using data structures close to the real is used to simulate the ontology application and validate its theoretical feasibility as well as its contribution to the Enterprise Architecture Management field.
