Abstract
The need and benefits of digital accessibility are evident and, with the current ubiquitous trends, the profits are hugely potentiated. However, the fast evolution is instigating some issues in this area's accessibility. To understand the conceivable impact of these issues' tenacity in society, general accessibility features are explained as a reasonable application for all parties. Nevertheless, the potential of ubiquitous computation in order to promote social integration of citizens with impairments is focused and elucidated. The benefits of applying so much effort on accessibility as well as on usability is asserted and related to universal design. Hence, in order to promote a more universal applications development, the mobile operating systems available in the market, which are more plausible to be chosen and used by people with impairments, are scrutinized and shown from a standpoint of a developer that has accessibility and usability concerns. The paper leads to the conclusions that ubiquitous computation may have power to nullify impairments but, to be assistive, several issues regarding the devices and the operating system that runs on them have to be taken in mind and considered.

Automatic Heart Sound Segmentation and Murmur Detection in Pediatric Phonocardiograms

Abstract
The digital analysis of heart sounds has revealed itself as an evolving field of study. In recent years, numerous approaches to create decision support systems were attempted. This paper proposes two novel algorithms: one for the segmentation of heart sounds into heart cycles and another for detecting heart murmurs. The segmentation algorithm, based on the autocorrelation function to find the periodic components of the PCG signal had a sensitivity and positive predictive value of 89.2% and 98.6%, respectively. The murmur detection algorithm is based on features collected from different domains and was evaluated in two ways: a random division between train and test set and a division according to patients. The first returned sensitivity and specificity of 98.42% and 97.21% respectively for a minimum error of 2.19%. The second division had a far worse performance with a minimum error of 33.65%. The operating point was chosen at sensitivity 69.67% and a specificity 46.91% for a total error of 38.90% by varying the percentage of segments classified as murmurs needed for a positive murmur classification.

MobILive 2014-Mobile Iris Liveness Detection Competition

Abstract
Biometric systems based on iris are vulnerable to several attacks, particularly direct attacks consisting on the presentation of a fake iris to the sensor. The development of iris liveness detection techniques is crucial for the deployment of iris biometric applications in daily life specially in the mobile biometric field. The 1st Mobile Iris Liveness Detection Competition (MobILive) was organized in the context of IJCB2014 in order to record recent advances in iris liveness detection. The goal for (MobILive) was to contribute to the state of the art of this particular subject. This competition covered the most common and simple spoofing attack in which printed images from an authorized user are presented to the sensor by a non-authorized user in order to obtain access. The benchmark dataset was the MobBIOfake database which is composed by a set of 800 iris images and its corresponding fake copies (obtained from printed images of the original ones captured with the same handheld device and in similar conditions). In this paper we present a brief description of the methods and the results achieved by the six participants in the competition.

Abstract
The organizations ability to manage corporate environmental performance is emerging as a strategic issue for companies. Environmental decision-making requires an explicit methodology in which it must be possible to articulate the involvement of various stakeholders, incorporate multi-disciplinary knowledge, and integrate criteria involving trade-offs in order to deal with different opinions and heterogeneous factors. The choice of sustainable options for the company and the creation of commitments among stakeholders are a must for businesses. The main motivation of this paper is to present results from the initial steps of the development of a methodology to support decision-making of corporate environmental strategies. An Interface for Fitness Function Design

Abstract
Fitness assignment is one of the biggest challenges in evolutionary art. Interactive evolutionary computation approaches put a significant burden on the user, leading to human fatigue. On the other hand, autonomous evolutionary art systems usually fail to give the users the opportunity to express and convey their artistic goals and preferences. Our approach empowers the users by allowing them to express their intentions through the design of fitness functions. We present a novel responsive interface for designing fitness function in the scope of evolutionary ant paintings. Once the evolutionary runs are concluded, further control is given to the users by allowing them to specify the rendering details of selected pieces. The analysis of the experimental results highlights how fitness function design influences the outcomes of the evolutionary runs, conveying the intentions of the user and enabling the evolution of a wide variety of images. © 2014 Springer-Verlag.

A hybrid simulated annealing approach to handle energy resource management considering an intensive use of electric vehicles

Abstract
The massification of electric vehicles (EVs) can have a significant impact on the power system, requiring a new approach for the energy resource management. The energy resource management has the objective to obtain the optimal scheduling of the available resources considering distributed generators, storage units, demand response and EVs. The large number of resources causes more complexity in the energy resource management, taking several hours to reach the optimal solution which requires a quick solution for the next day. Therefore, it is necessary to use adequate optimization techniques to determine the best solution in a reasonable amount of time. This paper presents a hybrid artificial intelligence technique to solve a complex energy resource management problem with a large number of resources, including EVs, connected to the electric network. The hybrid approach combines simulated annealing (SA) and ant colony optimization (ACO) techniques. The case study concerns different EVs penetration levels. Comparisons with a previous SA approach and a deterministic technique are also presented. For 2000 EVs scenario, the proposed hybrid approach found a solution better than the previous SA version, resulting in a cost reduction of 1.94%. For this scenario, the proposed approach is approximately 94 times faster than the deterministic approach.
