ENERGY CONVERSION AND MANAGEMENT

Abstract
In this paper, a new model is developed to optimise the performance of a plug-in Electric Vehicle (EV) aggregator in electricity markets, considering both short- and long-term horizons. EV aggregator as a new player of the power market can aggregate the EVs and manage the charge/discharge of their batteries. The aggregator maximises the profit and optimises EV owners' revenue by applying changes in tariffs to compete with other market players for retaining current customers and acquiring new owners. On this basis, a new approach to calculate the satisfaction/motivation of EV owners and their market participation is proposed in this paper. Moreover, the behaviour of owners to select their supplying company is considered. The aggregator optimises the self-scheduling programme and submits the best bidding/offering strategies to the day-ahead and real-time markets. To achieve this purpose, the day-ahead and real-time energy and reserve markets are modelled as oligopoly markets, in contrast with previous works that utilised perfectly competitive ones. Furthermore, several uncertainties and constraints are taken into account using a two-stage stochastic programing approach, which have not been addressed in previous works. The numerical studies show the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Abstract
A new sensing system for the detection of thermal deterioration of extra virgin olive oil based on long period fibre grating is reported. It is demonstrated the feasibility of long period fibre grating sensor for the analysis of high refractive index edible oils. The detection principle is the wavelength dependence of the attenuation bands of a TiO2-coated long period fibre grating on the changes in the refractive index of the medium surrounding the cladding surface of the optical fibre. The quality of the sensor was tested by measuring the wavelength shift of the attenuation bands in response to thermal deterioration of an edible oil (extra virgin olive oil) with refractive index higher than the fibre cladding. Absorption spectroscopy has allowed the effects of thermal deterioration to be detected, for example, in the decreasing of the absorption band at 677 nm, attributed to chlorophyll A. A detection limit of about 5 min at 180 A degrees C and of about 2 min at 225 A degrees C was observed for the sensing system. The proposed sensing system could lead to the realisation of a biochemical sensor for the food industry. The change in refractive index of extra virgin olive oil as a function of heating time and temperature was systematically measured for the first time.

EXPLORING SERVICES SCIENCE, IESS 2015

Abstract
It is crucial to promote the use of cleaner transport modes, and new technologies are key to achieve this goal. Most mobile-based solutions are focused on services related with the journey itself (mobile ticketing, real-time traffic information and trip planners). Adopting a holistic point of view, and considering every trip has a purpose (work, school, shopping and entertainment), a new service approach is considered. This paper presents a multiservice approach that links city services and public transport to encourage the use of sustainable transport modes. This multiservice approach is based on mobile technologies, which are a unique channel of interaction between service providers and customers. The conceptual model of this approach is materialized in a concrete example. This multiservice approach may represent a step towards a sustainable mobility, while improving the image and efficiency of Public Transport Operators (PTOs), boosting local businesses loyalty and sales and bringing convenience, better service quality and monetary savings to customers.

Abstract
In the nowadays highly unstable manufacturing market, companies are faced, on a daily basis, with important strategic decisions, such as "does the company has the necessary capacity to accept a high volume order?" or "what measures need to be implemented if the product demand increases x% a year?". Decision-makers, i.e. company's managers, rely on their experience and insights supported by classical tools to take such decisions. Classical mathematical solvers or agent-based systems are typical architectural solutions to implement strategic planning tools to support decision-makers on this important task. Within the ARUM (Adaptive Production Management) project, a hybrid strategic planning tool was specified and developed, combining the optimization features of classical solvers with the flexibility and agility of agent systems. This paper briefly presents such architecture and focuses on the generation of the "what-if game" mechanism to support the generation of more intelligent and dynamic planning solutions. © 2015 IEEE.

Abstract
As of today, AUTOSAR is the de facto standard in the automotive industry, providing a common software architecture and development process for automotive applications. While this standard is originally written for singlecore operated Electronic Control Units (ECU), new guidelines and recommendations have been added recently to provide support for multicore architectures. This update came as a response to the steady increase of the number and complexity of the software functions embedded in modern vehicles, which call for the computing power of multicore execution environments. In this paper, we enumerate and analyze the design options and the challenges of porting AUTOSAR-based automotive applications onto multicore platforms. In particular, we investigate those options when considering the emerging many-core architectures that provide a more scalable environment than the traditional multicore systems. Such platforms are suitable to enable massive parallel execution, and their design is more suitable for partitioning and isolating the software components.

Abstract
This paper analyzes the impact of storage installations on grid electricity demand. Storage systems allow the decoupling of consumption from electricity generation and therefore have the potential to change the daily demand profile seen by the network in a significant way. This has far reaching consequences for many stakeholders, as changes in the net demand would for example impact electricity prices or change the requirements for peak generation. The developed approach considers the installation of storage devices to increase self-consumption of locally generated electricity in a residential and small commercial end users context as well as its application for electricity arbitrage. Assumptions about their implementation on a system level are described and their impact on overall electricity demand is determined considering the German case.
