Envelope Dyadic Green's Function for Uniaxial Metamaterials

Abstract
We introduce the concept of the envelope dyadic Green's function (EDGF) and present a formalism to study the propagation of electromagnetic fields with slowly varying amplitude (EMFSVA) in dispersive anisotropic media with two dyadic constitutive parameters: the dielectric permittivity and the magnetic permeability. We find the matrix elements of the EDGFs by applying the formalism for uniaxial anisotropic metamaterials. We present the relations for the velocity of the EMFSVA envelopes which agree with the known definition of the group velocity in dispersive media. We consider examples of propagation of the EMFSVA passing through active and passive media with the Lorentz and the Drude type dispersions, demonstrating beam focusing in hyperbolic media and superluminal propagation in media with inverted population. The results of this paper are applicable to the propagation of modulated electromagnetic fields and slowly varying amplitude fluctuations of such fields through frequency dispersive and dissipative (or active) anisotropic metamaterials. The developed approach can be also used for the analysis of metamaterial-based waveguides, filters, and delay lines.

Designing of a mobile app for the development of pervasive games

Abstract
We face a technology growth period that promotes STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) as basic set of competences in diversified professional backgrounds. However, the process of teaching this areas is complex and abstract. We propose using game-based learning (GBL) for increased engagement and efficacy. More specifically, we use pervasive games as the drive of the learning process, promoting challenges in the context of the learner. To develop pervasive games, we require mobile devices (for location-based games) and a set of functionalities regarding location, time, and context of the user. In this article, we present the design of a mobile app to implement pervasive games. The perks of the mobile devices will be used to get unique and engaging challenges, to stimulate learning. Therefore, the learning process will become more enjoyable, and it will accomplish the goal of learning "anytime anywhere". This work sets upon previous work developed in the H2020 BEACONING project and the mobile app presented will allow other developers to create pervasive games for distinct areas of learning in a more engaging and effective way.

The Evolution of Corporate Divestment

Abstract
When compared to other fields of research such as mergers and acquisitions, corporate divestment is under researched. There are at least three main reasons for this: the environment in which corporate divestment research has taken place has caused divestments to be understood as acquisition-driven rather than strategy-driven, the scope and distinct modes of divestment, and the difficulties in isolating the divestment phenomena. The objective of this chapter is to review the main theoretical approaches used in the study of divestment, to analyze their contribution to the field, and to discuss whether new approaches are needed in divestment research. Most studies of divestment are based on the concept that divestment is the outcome of poor unit performance, and the reversal of previous over-diversification and growth strategies that expanded the company size beyond optimal control. This chapter proposes four future lines of research into corporate divestment: the international business strategy, the network perspective, the stakeholders' perspective, and the institutional theory.

Combining the Flexibility From Shared Energy Storage Systems and DLC-Based Demand Response of HVAC Units for Distribution System Operation Enhancement

Abstract
In this study, a direct load control strategy for procuring flexibility from residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) units and the optimal management of shared energy storage systems connected at different buses of a distribution system is proposed, as a new contribution with respect to earlier studies, aiming to minimize the energy demand during DR event periods. Moreover, an additional objective related to the minimization of the end-users' discomfort induced by the interruption of the HVAC units is considered, leading to the formulation of a bi-level optimization problem based on a second-order conic programming representation of the AC power flow equations. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology is demonstrated by performing simulations on a test system and comparisons with other approaches.

Abstract
Supply chains have become one of the most important strategic themes in the aerospace industry in recent years as globalization and deep technological changes have altered the industry at many levels, creating new dynamics and strategies. In this setting, sustainability at the supply chain level is an emerging research topic, whose contributions aim to support businesses into the future. To do so the development of new products and the response to new industry requirements, while incorporating new materials appears as a path to follow, which require more resilient and agile supply chains, while guaranteeing their sustainability. Such supply chains will be better prepared for the future complex challenges and risks faced by the aerospace companies. Such challenges are addressed in this work, where an integrated framework is proposed to contribute to the resilience and sustainability of aerospace supply chains. Using different analysis methods, the framework addresses four important challenges in the context of aerospace supply chain sustainability: evolution and new trends, performance assessment, supplier selection, and supply chain design and planning. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Use of a 3d ground-penetrating radar for detection of buried inert explosive devices

Abstract
A dangerous problem that many countries have to face is the existence of buried explosive devices, responsible for high numbers of civilian fatalities. Their detection and removal are therefore mandatory, which has led in recent years to the development of different techniques that can ensure safer and more efficient demining operations. Geophysical techniques have been employed, since allow ground search in a non-invasive, rapid and cost-effective way, with special interest being given to ground penetrating radar (GPR). In the current work, it was buried in a sandy soil and in a clayey soil (27m2 each), one of two similar sets of different inert explosive devices. GPR profiles of the subsoil were obtained with a 3D-GPR system, being then processed with the ReflexW software. Three dimensional cubes of the two study sites were constructed for better target signal visualization. The preliminary results confirm the efficiency of this technique, since all buried inert explosive devices were detected in both soil types. © SGEM2019.
