Abstract
In this work, we propose a method for extending Node-RED to allow the automatic decomposition and partitioning of the system towards higher decentralization. We provide a custom firmware for constrained devices to expose their resources, as well as new nodes and modifications in the Node-RED engine that allow automatic orchestration of tasks. The firmware is responsible for low-level management of health and capabilities, as well as executing MicroPython scripts on demand. Node-RED then takes advantage of this firmware by (1) providing a device registry allowing devices to announce themselves, (2) generating MicroPython code from dynamic analysis of flow and nodes, and (3) automatically (re-)assigning nodes to devices based on pre-specified properties and priorities. A mechanism to automatically detect abnormal run-time conditions and provide dynamic self-adaptation was also explored. Our solution was tested using synthetic home automation scenarios, where several experiments were conducted with both virtual and physical devices. We then exhaustively measured each scenario to allow further understanding of our proposal and how it impacts the system's resiliency, efficiency, and elasticity.

Advances in Transdisciplinary Engineering

Abstract
The manufacturing industry faces a new revolution, grounded on the intense digitalization of assets and industrial processes and the increasing computation capabilities imposed by the new data-driven digital architectures. This reality has been promoting the Digital Twin (DT) concept and its importance on the industrial companies' business models. However, with these new opportunities, also new threads may rise, mainly related to industrial data protection and sovereignty. Therefore, this research paper will demonstrate the International Data Spaces (IDS) reference model's application to overcome these limitations. Following a pilot study with a Portuguese machine manufacturing company, this paper will demonstrate the development of a cutting and bending machines DT, leveraged on an IDS infrastructure for interoperability, for the plastic and metal industry and its importance to introduce this machine manufacturing company in a new B2B marketplace from the EU project Market 4.0.

Abstract
Many organizations find the emerging concept of the Digital Twin (DT) to be compelling as a potential means to reduce the time and cost to develop new products, support fielded products, and enable rapid innovation to respond to new market opportunities. However, realizing the full potential of a DT may require significant changes in the methods, processes, and tools for product development and support currently used by potential adopters in the organization. We introduce an approach for assessing the behaviors and capabilities of the DT and their relationships within the organization's sociotechnical system. We believe this approach can enable DT implementation outcomes better aligned with the organization's strategic goals and objectives, and help to clarify not only what the DT can do, but what it should do for the organization. The approach is explained using an illustrative case study example, which is based on interim progress of our ongoing research project.
