Abstract
In this paper we introduce the generalized feedforward filter, a new class of adaptive filters that combines attractive properties of finite impulse response (FIR) filters with some of the power of infinite impulse response (IIR) filters. A particular case, the gamma filter, generalizes Widrow's adaptive transversal filter (adaline) to an infinite impulse response filter. Yet, the stability condition for the gamma filter is trivial, and least mean square (LMS) adaptation is of the same computational complexity as the conventional transversal filter structure. Preliminary results indicate that the gamma filter is more efficient than the adaptive transversal filter. We extend the Wiener-Hopf equation to the gamma filter and develop some analysis tools.

Abstract
The authors present the concept of using a high-speed data communication switch as a backbone network concentrator, with low packet delay, in order to accommodate internet and high-demand traffic. Also presented is the front-end processor concept, namely the implementation of an Ethernet front-end processor to connect Ethernet stations and LANs. Another front-end processor is currently being developed for the Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI), because most of the FDDI applications will be LAN interconnection and direct connection of mainframes, high-speed servers and workstations.

Abstract
An interactive software tool for epileptiform spike detection and focus localization is presented. The method for focus localization uses a multistrategy approach based on different and independent computerized methods. Spike detection is performed using an algorithm based on a set of parameters that characterize the waveforms in the time domain. A number of independent techniques is integrated in a Microsoft Windows based environment to select artifact-free electroencephalogram segments. With this software, the clinician may adjust and validate the automatic spike detector as well as combine and integrate a set of independent techniques to reinforce each other in order to achieve a reliable focal indication.

Abstract
This paper presents the results of a preliminary study to examine the ability of post-silicon devices for analog processing. It is focused on the latest thin-film transistors (TFTs) with amorphous gallium-indium-zinc oxide (a-GIZO) as active layer. Three circuit configurations are presented: a differential pair and two multiplier topologies. Both triode and saturation regions of operation are included in the analysis, with the devices set to remain in strong accumulation. A neural model, which is developed based on the measured data of the TFTs, is used for the circuit simulations in the Cadence Virtuoso environment. The analog multipliers simulation results are compared against the expected functional results.
