NETWORKING - ICN 2001, PT I, PROCEEDINGS

Abstract
Virtual Home Environment is a new concept that emerged in the context of the 3(rd) generation networks for mobile communications, The objective of this paper is to present the work that currently takes place in VESPER1, an IST project in the area of the VHE. The paper presents the VESPER project approach to the VHE architecture, its main components, the way they interact and the way this architecture will facilitate the creation of services embedded with the VHE concept. The paper presents also two demonstration services, their main functional features and how they use the VHE architecture defined in VESPER.

2007 14TH INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON SYSTEMS, SIGNALS, & IMAGE PROCESSING & EURASIP CONFERENCE FOCUSED ON SPEECH & IMAGE PROCESSING, MULTIMEDIA COMMUNICATIONS & SERVICES

Abstract
The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), standardized by 3GPP, can be seen as a way of offering Internet services, such as the Web access, electronic mail or instant messaging, through any access technology, in terms of terminals and networks. This paper presents a proposal to solve the problem of the dynamic adaptation of multimedia services provided in the Web context. The proposed solution is based on the real-time generation of user interfaces conditioned by the user context. The solution is mainly characterized by the approach used for resolving the existing dependencies among user interface variables and by the mechanism for acquiring the user context information, which uses the Parlay middleware.

Proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Information Integration and Web-based Applications and Services, iiWAS 2008

Abstract
This article describes a process for identifying the most interesting business exploitation cases (BECs) for the implementation of the Daidalos Integrated Project architecture. Starting from the characterization of the telecommunication service provision market and from the project business model framework (BMF), we analyze the main enabling players that are in the position to occupy the main roles in the info-communication value chain. From this analysis, we reason which are the most probable scenarios for establishing business relations between these players, in the present and in the near future telecommunications context. © 2008 ACM.

IEEE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MULTIMEDIA AND EXPO, VOL I AND II, PROCEEDINGS

Abstract
This paper presents the most innovative aspects of a middleware architecture that enables the provision of advanced personalized services in a Virtual Home Environment context. Multimedia considerations to extend the architecture to support mobile multimedia in a ubiquitous access terminal and network environment are also included.

MOBILE MULTIMEDIA PROCESSING: FUNDAMENTALS, METHODS, AND APPLICATIONS

Abstract
This chapter presents a proposal to solve the problem of the adaptation of multimedia services in mobile contexts. The chapter combines context-awareness techniques with user interface modeling to dynamically adapt telecommunications services to user resources, in terms of terminal and network conditions. The solution is mainly characterized by the approach used for resolving the existing dependencies among user interface variables, which is based on the constraints theory. The experiments and tests carried out with these techniques demonstrate a general improvement of the adaptation of multimedia services in mobile environments, in comparison to systems that do not dynamically integrate the user context information in the adaptation process.

Using context information for tailoring multimedia services to user's resources

REAL-TIME MOBILE MULTIMEDIA SERVICES, PROCEEDINGS

Abstract
The integration of multiple network access technologies in the terminal is one of the most important trends in 4G networks. This integration places telecommunications service providers, and in particular operators, under the significant challenge of being able to transform their services in order to adapt them to a great variety of delivery contexts. This paper describes a generic methodology for the adaptation of telecommunications services provided in the context of an operator. A number of scenarios are examined which show how Parlay middleware can be used by trusted service providers to easily access network resources and context information for enhancing location-based and adaptable multimedia telecommunications services.
