Abstract
It is necessary to study how to improve the reuse of learning objects stored in repositories, otherwise they will serve merely as archives, neither assisting learner interested in some subjects nor educators developing courses. In this paper we deal with a number of questions related to a project committed to develop and evaluate a model for repositories that can make feasible the reuse of learning objects, beneficiating learners, educators and stakeholders. We argue that the pragmatic characterization of learning objects is a valid approach to reach this goal.

Proceedings of the 6th Iberian Conference on Information Systems and Technologies, CISTI 2011

Abstract
The achievement of information and knowledge is a common practice of mankind. Thus, the knowledge is preserved and made it transmission to subsequent generations ensuring their own survival and evolution of the human race. With the advent of information produced digitally, it is necessary to ensure new mechanisms for sharing preserve those digital contents in this new "information society". Regarding health, we find that the available repositories are mostly institutional which prevents the submission of digital contents and their preservation by independent professionals, researchers and students who are not part of them. It also denotes that these repositories have a lot of thesis, leaving out other multimedia resources such as images, videos, 3D models, animations, clinical exams, case studies, among others. The creation of a non-institutional thematic repository aims to contribute to a further spread of this type of resources cataloged with metadata in a global level and provide digital preservation thereof. This paper presents the steps for creating a thematic repository for healthcare. © 2011 AISTI.

Proceedings - Sixth International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies, ICALT 2006

Abstract
Learning objects repositories intend to endorse reutilization but this purpose has not been fully achieved yet. In this paper, we describe a project addresses the effective reuse of learning objects in repositories. The initial model presented and discussed introduces new requirements in the way contents are stored and searched and in the contextual definition of learning objects. Considering IMS LD templates, we propose examples of its use for learning objects. © 2006 IEEE.

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY & SOCIETY

Abstract
This document is a survey in the research area of User Modeling (UM) for the specific field of Adaptive Learning. The aims of this document are: To define what it is a User Model; To present existing and well known User Models; To analyze the existent standards related with UM; To compare existing systems. In the scientific area of User Modeling (UM), numerous research and developed systems already seem to promise good results, but some experimentation and implementation are still necessary to conclude about the utility of the UM. That is, the experimentation and implementation of these systems are still very scarce to determine the utility of some of the referred applications. At present, the Student Modeling research goes in the direction to make possible reuse a student model in different systems. The standards are more and more relevant for this effect, allowing systems communicate and to share data, components and structures, at syntax and semantic level, even if most of them still only allow syntax integration.

NINETEENTH CONVENTION OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS IN ISRAEL

Abstract
Communication networks are in continuous progress with the aim of providing a wider variety of services to satisfy the demands of large numbers of very different users. With increasingly complex systems and increasingly competitive markets, software developers face a difficult challenge: how to create services more quickly, at lower cost, that will be of top-level quality and may be improved easily. Based on two tools, our goal was to expedite the creation of distributed services, by translating the files generated in a formal specification environment (GEODE), at the moment a service is specified, into files supported by a distributed architecture (ANSA), for subsequent implementation. In this paper, a description of the most important concepts of the two software packages is given and an implementation for the intended translation is presented.

NINETEENTH CONVENTION OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS IN ISRAEL

Abstract
Technical advances in communication networks and terminal equipment make possible the provision of a wide range of new and appealing telecommunication services. However, the increasing user demand and the strong market competition require that the creation of those services is efficient and fast, and that they have attractive interfaces. The complexity of networks and distributed systems, which support those services, renders the usage of formal specification languages, such as SDL, almost mandatory in their development. According to some authors, fifty percent of the total time necessary to develop applications is spent in building and testing graphical interfaces for different platforms. In this paper, an efficient methodology to create graphical interfaces for telecommunication services specified in SDL is presented.
