Abstract
In the present-day the ageing population is not receiving the proper attention and care they need, because there aren't enough healthcare providers to everyone. As the elderly relatives have less time to take care of them the healthcare centers are without any doubt insufficient for all, for these reasons there is an extra pressure or demand on the healthcare sector. Focusing on the elderly care, as the human capacity of memorizing events decreases over time, it is intended to promote an active ageing lifestyle for the elderly, where memory assistance tools are vital component. In this paper, it is presented an scheduler which takes charge of the day-to-day tasks and the user agenda.

Intelligent mixed reality for the creation of ambient assisted living

Abstract
Demographical and social changes have an enormous effect on health care, emergency and welfare services. Indeed, as the average age continues to rise, it is set the mood to an exponential growth in assistance and care, resulting in higher service costs, a decrease in quality of service, or even both. On the other hand, as part of the evolution of traditional Virtual Reality Environments (or Intelligent Mixed Reality), a striving expression for Ambient Intelligence (AmI) it is possible to outline the role of AmI in healthcare, by focusing on its technological, logical (relational) and common sense nature. Our goal is to have in place an electronically-based monitoring system. This would reduce response time to adverse events, improve analytics and reporting, and will provide caregivers with the information they need to positively impact the care of individual patients.

Abstract
Quality on the welfare services in caring, and the trend to minimize the economical and social-political costs that come with such practice, due to the population aging, are paramount nowadays, i.e., health care reform has become the leading policy issue in all latitudes. Indeed, the major thrust of all this research is the perception that escalating costs make the current structure and financing of health care unsustainable. The issue of sustainability is, therefore, the main subject of this paper. As a result, and in order to accomplish this goal, we decided to look to the problem from an user perspective, i.e., the system not only will provide different services, but will be also able to trace the ones more frequently used and to learn about the context in which they happen. As a result, we will have a system that will act and learn according to the preferences and habits of its users, and, simultaneously, will adapt to the environment with the objective of reducing the cost of its practices.

VirtualECare: Intelligent Assisted Living

Abstract
Innovative healthcare projects are arising in today's society, normally presenting as major advantage the reduction of care provider's costs. Being these advantage a legitimate one, we are trying to take it a step forward through the use of proactiveness, decision making techniques, idea generation, argumentation and quality, not only of the in transit information, but also of the provided service as well. With these objectives in mind, the VirtualECare project was born. In this paper we are going to briefly present the project and make a position of the actual developments in this first year of work.

Collaborative group support in E-health

Abstract
In critical areas such as decision making, the Collaborative Work has an uttermost importance. Being a complex problem, the collective decision taking is currently a popular form of taking decisions. In this work we present the VirtualECare project: an intelligent multi-agent system able to monitor, interact and serve its customers (in need of care services). In developed countries, recent census data report a sudden increase in the elderly community together with a decrease of child birth. This is a new reality that needs to be dealt by the health sector, particularly by the public one. In an early stage, this new situation appears mostly as a financial problem. The costs involved in the health care are considerable. Thus, alternative technological solutions that lead to straightforward solutions should be adopted. Recently, a growing interest in combining the advances in information society - computing, telecommunications and presentation - to create Group Decision Support Systems (GDSS), has been observed. It is our view that the use of the GDSS in the health care area will pursue the achievement of better results in terms of patients Electronically Clinical Profile (ECP). Additionally, we believe that the best way of managing health appointments is through the use of calendars - one application that can manage both the physicians and patients calendars and consequently their day schedule. Within this area, the approaches used in the VirtualECare and iGenda projects are presented. © 2010 IEEE.

Ambient Assisted Living

Abstract
The quality of care practice is difficult to judge. Indeed, support and care provision is very personal, i.e., assessments are individual and lead to specific care packages, involving social services, health workers, care agencies. We expect privacy in our own affairs and confidentially from those to whom we disclose them. Therefore, we are in an urgent need for new, technological and formal approaches to problem solving, as the increase of population with special care requirements. Following this line of thought, it is one's goal to present the VirtualECare framework, an intelligent multi-agent system able to monitor, interact and serve its customers, which are in need of care services, based in open standards, expecting not only to fulfil the objectives referred to above, but also to overcome the problems induced by the use of new technologies and formalisms.
