INESC TEC opens 60 positions for summer internships in engineering

22nd April 2024

This summer, the selected candidates will be able to move from theory to practice, and understand how to contribute to address real problems, integrating a research experience in one of INESC TEC's scientific domains: Artificial Intelligence, Bioengineering, Communications, Computer Science and Engineering, Photonics, Power and Energy Systems, Robotics and Systems Engineering and Management.

These internships will last at least four weeks, between June 25 and July 31; they target first degree or master's degree students exploring areas related to the INESC TEC domains mentioned above - provided that, at the time of application, they are enrolled in a higher education institution.

"The main objective of the Summer Internships is to provide a first research experience to those who want to know more about research and development activities, complementing their training and bringing younger people closer to research careers", said Aníbal Matos, member of the Board of Directors at INESC TEC, and leader of this initiative.

The students will have the opportunity to develop cross-cutting skills, e.g., spirit of collaboration, cooperation, and teamwork, and to better understand future perspectives in terms of academia and career path alternatives. They can also benefit from practical research experience, to experiment and understand how research is carried out, and how they can contribute to science with the creation of something new.

Given the close connection between INESC TEC and higher education institutions, first degree students who must complete a mandatory curricular internship to complete their study cycle can request equivalence through the internship at INESC TEC

"Internships can be carried out in person, online, or following an hybrid approach - depending on the nature of the work plan; students are required to participate in the various activities full-time, over the four weeks", explained Aníbal Matos, who is also a professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).

At the end of the internship, students will have the opportunity to present the results of their work, in a closing session; they'll receive a certificate of completion, which they can include in their CV, and they can also receive awards and the acknowledgement for "Best Internship".

Applications are open until May 15, on INESC TEC website- where you can also find detailed information about this entire process. The application form that must be completed requires the indication, in order of preference, of three internship themes.
