Collaborative Laboratory for the Integrated Forest and Fire Management is currently hiring

27th February 2020

The call for applications is available until March 11 on the ForestWISE website (www.forestwise.pt) – direct link for applications here. ForestWISE is looking for researchers and project managers in the scientific fields addressed by the CoLAB's activities (Forest Engineering, Industrial Management, Public Policies and similar), with a PhD and professional experience of more than five years in project management, particularly related to forestry and fire management.

These professionals will reinforce the technical team of ForestWISE, which comprehends 20 elements - with Carlos Fonseca (professor at the University of Aveiro) as CTO.

“These researchers and project managers will be responsible for managing the ForestWISE research agenda in their respective field, coordinating research projects and identifying R&D&I opportunities to address the issues and needs of the integrated rural fire management", says Carlos Fonseca.

The CoLAB headquarters are located in Vila Real, as part of the campus of the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro. The team will make use of the infrastructures available at CoLAB and the delegations in other regions of the country. They can also benefit from the existing infrastructures and equipment of the project’s associates.

“After the dissemination of the results of the public consultation on the National Plan for the Integrated Rural Fire Management, the ForestWISE R&D&I Agenda and the Agri-Food, Forestry and Biodiversity Research and Innovation Agenda (FCT), there’s an urgent need to reinforce the CoLab team with people capable of addressing the challenges in these areas”, states José Manuel Mendonça, President of ForestWISE Board of Directors.

With 15 members, ForestWISE - Association for the Collaborative Laboratory for Integrated Forest and Fire Management - was formally established as a non-profit association at the end of 2018, benefiting from a legal personality. The main goal of ForestWISE is developing R&D&I activities and transferring knowledge and technology, according to a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda developed through a large participation of stakeholders.

In its current configuration, ForestWISE consists of 15 associates. The business associates are Altri Florestal, Amorim Florestal, EDP Distribuição, DS Smith Paper Viana, REN, Sonae Arauco and The Navigator Company. The members of the academy are INESC TEC, Instituto Superior de Agronomia (University of Lisbon), Universities of Aveiro, Coimbra, Évora and Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. Other public bodies are the AGIF (Agency for the Integrated Rural Fire Management) and INIAV (National Institute for Agrarian and Veterinary Research).
