Work description

Coordination and implementation of R&D projects and knowledge enhancement, preparation of R&D project applications, team management and guidance of junior researchers, scientific production for international journals and conferences, intervention in the scientific and professional communities, as well as coordination and participation in scientific and technological dissemination initiatives, particularly in the area of Smart Buildings and energy management tools for Zero Energy Buildings (ZEB). The duties include the coordination of the participation of CPES in the ZEB project within the ATE, namely: (1) Leading the definition of the requirements for the operation of a universal digital twin system for tertiary buildings supporting the energy management of ZEB tertiary buildings; (2) Coordinating the development of energy demand and supply models and algorithms to be integrated into the building digital twin; (3) Supervising the creation of a model for electric vehicle (EV) charging management, focusing on strategies for multi-temporal optimization and the exploitation of vehicle-to-grid (V2X) mechanisms; (4) Representing the project at consortium meetings, dissemination events and capacity building actions.

Academic Qualifications

PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering

Minimum profile required

Track record in smart building technologies and building energy modelling, including integration of renewable resources at building level, demand load profiling, demand response, building automation systems, and HVAC control; Knowledge of design and implementation of energy management systems, dashboards, and related tools; Comprehensive understanding of monitoring, metering, measurement, and sensing data in the context of smart buildings; Familiarity with optimized management of flexible energy resources; Excellent collaboration skills and ability to work in a team; Excellent project management skills; Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English. Familiarity with optimization strategies for EV charging and V2X mechanisms to support building operation are a plus. As most of the partners in the project are based in Portugal, high level of proficiency in written and communication in Portuguese is desirable.

Preference factors

Postdoctoral research experience in the field of smart buildings, energy systems, or similar; Prior experience managing projects; Experience with proposal writing and securing funding for projects; Excellent track record of published research in the specified areas of the position, with at least 5 papers in Q1 international journals.
