Work description

Activities within the scope of knowledge management and enhancement: "technology scouting", assessment and assistance in writing support for technology protection; definition and execution of intellectual property protection strategies; technology marketing to potential licensors; negotiation and monitoring of licensing contracts. Management of industry-institution-researchers interaction. Support for structuring business models. Coordination and implementation of R&D projects and knowledge enhancement, preparation of R&D project applications, team management and guidance of junior researchers, scientific production oriented to international journals and conferences, intervention in the scientific and professional communities, as well as coordination and participation in scientific and technological dissemination initiatives, particularly in the area of Science and Technology Management. Technology prospecting, definition of intellectual property strategies, support for writing patents and choosing software licenses, licensing and technology commercialization.

Academic Qualifications

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Informatics or Computer Science, Physics, bioengeneering or similar. Preference will be given to candidates with a doctoral degree and candidates with a bachelor's or master's degree will only be hired if they do not apply for doctorates, or if they do apply, the latter are not in the intended training area and/or do not have experience that refers to above.

Minimum profile required

Very good knowledge of English and Portuguese (spoken and written) and scientific culture of excellence for evidence-based analysis and decisions.

Preference factors

Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively in a national and international context with INESC TEC researchers, companies, funding agencies, industrial property agents, venture capital investors, etc. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent problem solving skills to deal with complex commercial, legal, interpersonal and inter-organizational issues. Strong interpersonal skills that reflect courtesy, diplomacy and a collaborative approach to developing and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to work independently and to exercise good judgment and discretion in the performance of all work assignments. Previous experience in academically based technology transfer will be highly valued. Participation in entrepreneurship programs and intellectual property training will enhance the application.
