Multi-Agent Systems

Work description

he scholarship's area of training is Multi-Agent Systems, focusing on the study, research and application of multi-agent architectures to the industrial domain. This involves the research and development of approaches that facilitate the adoption of agent-based solutions capable of cooperating, coordinating tasks and making decisions in a distributed manner, with the aim of increasing the autonomy and efficiency of organisations in implementing practical and scalable solutions. In particular, the scholarship aims to investigate multi-agent architectures applicable to different industrial contexts, proposing an architecture that allows agents to connect to organisational information sources, ensuring robust mechanisms for data access, integration and governance. It also aims to explore ways of making the architecture configurable and adaptable to multiple industrial domains with minimal effort, using strategies such as modularity, parameterisation, reusable components and interaction patterns between agents. Specifically, the main activities to be carried out by the scholarship holder are: • Analyse the state of the art in multi-agent system architectures and frameworks, including mechanisms for coordination, negotiation, planning, orchestration and communication between agents, identifying good practices and examples in the industrial context; • Survey and specify requirements for a multi-agent architecture oriented towards industrial scenarios, including functional and non-functional requirements; • Propose and detail an architecture that supports the connection of agents to organisational information sources, considering integration strategies (connectors, APIs, mediation layers), access policies and traceability/audit mechanisms; • Investigate mechanisms that promote adaptability and portability between domains, reducing implementation and customisation effort; • Collaborate in the development, integration, and validation of the architecture/prototype in realistic scenarios, including defining use cases, designing experiences, and evaluating performance and utility; • Collaborate in the preparation of technical and scientific documentation, production of reports, and writing of activity reports, as well as in the systematisation of results and recommendations for industrial adoption.
