Project MarinEye will promote a sustainable management of marine resources
03rd March 2016
Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between INESC TEC and the National Institute of Informatics (NII), in Tokyo (Japan) in 2014, five INESC TEC researchers had the opportunity to do an internship at the Japanese institution.

In October 2015, two teams from INESC TEC’s Centres for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) and Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CROB) have started working on project ENDURE, led by INESC TEC (project leader). The goal with this project is to develop an underwater docking station for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). The station will allow these vehicles to remain in the ocean for long periods of time.
21st December 2015
A team of researchers from INESC TEC have tested the intelligence and the autonomy of their robots in catastrophe simulation scenarios. The group represented Portugal in the euRathlon, the largest robotics competition in Europe, which took place between 17 and 25 September in Piombino (Livorno, Italy).
07th October 2015
On 9 and 10 July, the robots developed as part of project ICARUS were presented at the ICARUS Sea Trials Lisbon 2015, which took place at the Base Naval de Alfeite (Naval Base of Alfeite, Portugal). INESC TEC’s Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CROB) is leading the maritime component, as a result of their experience in aquatic robotics.
28th July 2015
INESC TEC is participating in a €12,6M H2020 project where the goal is to explore underwater mines. This will be a unique opportunity to explore Europe’s underwater mineral resources using safer and more environmentally friendly techniques.
08th April 2015
A team formed by researchers from INESC TEC’s Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CROB), and by professors and students of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), have participated in the 7th International Robotic Sailing Conference (IRSC), which included the World Robotic Sailing Championship (WRSC), where the team won two of the most important rounds.
13th October 2014
Between 30 June and 4 July, INESC TEC participated in the REX2014 - Robotics Exercises, which took place at the Lisbon Naval Base (Alfeite/Almada). As in previous years, the goal with the initiative was to test and demonstrate robotic (and related areas) technologies for operations in aquatic environments in the areas of defence, security, search and rescue, maritime surveillance or monitoring.
22nd July 2014
On 13 February, INESC TEC welcomed the director for international relations of the National Institute of Informatics (NII), Henri Angelino. The goal was to establish possible cooperation agreements with the Japanese institute.
07th March 2014
From 15 to 19 June, members of INESC TEC’s Robotics and Intelligent Systems Unit (ROBIS) travelled to NATO’s Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE), in La Spezia, Italy, to participate in a set of tests as part of project ICARUS (Integrated Components for Assisted Rescue and Unmanned Search operations).
31st July 2013
In 2012, BIP featured several (good) news about researchers awarded for their work in different components. Literary awards, Best Papers Awards, winning projects and other distinctions, they all illustrate the research potential of this Associate Laboratory. The BIP team made a list of last year’s awards and we came up with a staggering number of 31 awards received by our collaborators. It is safe to say that excellence lives at INESC TEC!
24th January 2013
On 17 December, INESC TEC will be organising an internal workshop on information security.
