Information security highlighted at INESC TEC

On 17 December, INESC TEC will be organising an internal workshop on information security.

30th November 2012

The idea for this workshop came to be after the Open Day for Companies, organised last and Multimedia June by INESC TEC’s Telecommunications Unit (UTM), under the supervision of Augustin Olivier (manager at UTM and advisor to the Board of Directors), and by the Information and Computer Graphics Systems Unit (USIG). Furthermore, this workshop is part of INESC TEC’s strategy to organise events to disseminate transversal skills at INESC TEC with companies. The ultimate goal is to promote partnerships.

As part of this Open Day for Companies, the information security theme in its broader sense was identified as a relevant subject for companies. Moreover, this theme is addressed by several Units at INESC TEC and it is an expanding sector, with security needs being important to the daily lives of citizens.

As such, the idea of organising firstly an internal workshop was seen as strategic, taking advantage of some of the results obtained during another internal workshop organised by UTM as part of the FP7-SEC (Security Research Call). The aim is to disseminate the work developed by several Units, followed by a debate where the goal is to take advantage of the synergies between several researchers. This workshop will provide an opportunity to present an integrated offer for the applications to the new Framework Programmes, and also create added value to the companies in this area.

Other than researchers from USIG and UTM, the workshop will welcome researchers from the Centre for Research in Advanced Computing Systems (CRACS), the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD) and the High Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab). There are also plans to organise a workshop for companies on information security in the beginning of 2013.
