Isabel Rio-Torto and Ricardo Cruz, researchers at INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM), received three prizes awarded by Fraunhofer Portugal and the Portuguese Association for Pattern Recognition (APRP) – the latter, within the scope of 26th edition of RECPAD – Portuguese Conference on Pattern Recognition.

INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) is part of a new European project focused on the experimental validation of Artificial Intelligence techniques to manage the Wi-Fi networks of the future. It is called SMART, and it was approved within the scope of the 8th FED4FIRE + Open Call.

The paper "A Framework for On-Demand Reporting of Cryptocurrency Ownership and Provenance" co-authored by António Pinto, a researcher at the Centre for Advanced Computing Systems (CRACS) and by Pedro Pinto, a researcher at the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) of INESC TEC, received the Best Application Paper Award at the International Congress on Blockchain and Applications (BLOCKCHAIN'20).

The European Commission’s Innovation Radar initiative acknowledged the contributions of INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) in the FotoInMotion (FiM) project. This project aims to identify innovations with significant potential, funded by the European Union.

A tool based on artificial intelligence will allow considerable advances in the way the anatomopathological diagnosis of histological samples is currently carried out. The INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) participates in the CADPath.AI project as a technological partner since June 2020, and the project will last for two years.

During the month of July, INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) promoted the fourth edition of the Summer Internship’s initiative. Students from various Portuguese faculties and universities had the opportunity to develop and deepen knowledge in the fields of telecommunications and multimedia.

The thesis entitled “Fingerprint Anti Spoofing – Domain Adaptation and Adversarial Learning”, developed as part of the Master in Bioengineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), was awarded «CTM’s Best Master Thesis of 2020». João Pereira is the author of the work, supervised by Jaime Cardoso and Ana Filipa Sequeira, researchers of INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM).

INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) supported AppGeneration in the development of the Tennis Tracking AI application. This tool helps tennis players obtain more value from their matches, in order to improve their performance; the app is a result of the Tennis Video Sports AI project.

The ICIAR 2020 – 17th International Conference on Image Analysis and Recognition – took place between the June 24 and 26. The international event in the fields of Image Processing and Analysis, Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Medical Image Analysis has been held annually, alternating between Portugal and Canada. The 2020 edition was “100% digital”, with the collaboration of five researchers from INESC TEC.

The eighth edition of “VISUM Summer School” is already scheduled. The event is organised by INESC TEC and the Infante D. Henrique Portucalense University (UPT), and it will take place between July 6 and 10. The Summer School will feature internationally recognised speakers in the field of computer vision. This edition will introduce several new features, and take place through digital channels, thus overcoming the challenges of the current context and reaching a higher number of candidates.
