STAYAWAY COVID, the Portuguese COVID-19 contact tracing app, is now available for iOS and Android mobile phones, completely free of charge. INESC TEC coordinated the consortium in charge of developing the STAYAWAY COVID, officially launched on September 1, at an event that featured Prime Minister António Costa. This application strengthens to the Portuguese resources against the pandemic, focusing on a quick return to normality.

The new coronavirus tracing application is already in the final testing phase. For about 10 days, INESC TEC employees and participants in the Diaries of a Pandemic will be able to test the STAYAWAY COVID technology.

The European project BEACONING - Breaking Educational Barriers with Contextualized, Pervasive and Gameful Learning, developed in partnership with INESC TEC's Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG), was the big winner of the “Gamification Software Award”. This competition aims to reward disruptive projects in the field of gamification.

This is the idea behind the “Augmented Book for the Creative Introduction to Programming”, a project by António Coelho, from INESC TEC’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG), one of the winners of the competition for “Pedagogical Innovation Projects”, part of the “Promoting Pedagogical Excellence” programme by the University of Porto.

The closing session of the project SIMPROVE – Medical Simulation Centre of the Future, which brought together FMUP, INESC TEC and the company STI-Medical, was attended by Guid Oei, professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology (the Netherlands), an expert in the medical simulation area applied to Obstetrics and member of a consortium that won EUR 2.9 million for the development of an artificial uterus prototype.
