Advanced training course in Sustainability in Healthcare
INESC TEC launched the first edition of the advanced training course in Sustainability in Healthcare; the initiative will start in December, and registrations are open until 30 November, here.
Globally, the healthcare sector is responsible for approximately 4%-5% of worldwide greenhouse gas emissions. A study published in 2024 by Springer Nature stated that if the healthcare sector were a country, it would rank among the five largest CO₂ emitters in the world. Consequently, the introduction of ESG practices (Environment, Social and Governance) in this sector is increasingly necessary, but it requires professionals with specialised training in this field.
The main objective of the Sustainability in Healthcare course, promoted by INESC TEC, is precisely to prepare professionals working in the healthcare sector to integrate sustainable practices and measure their outcomes. Accordingly, the course will cover not only trends and regulations but also the factors of sustainability in healthcare, resource management, waste reduction, and the social, environmental, and economic impact of healthcare operations, enabling professionals to report effectively on ESG.
The course targets different professional profiles, but primarily hospital managers, healthcare professionals, sustainability and ESG officers, as well as business managers and leaders. It features three complementary modules, which can also be taken individually: social, environmental, and economic impact of healthcare; circular economy and waste in healthcare; and ESG in healthcare - all taught in-person at INESC TEC during December.
People can join the full course (three modules) at a total cost of €1,200, or individual modules, with a cost of €400.
