Problem Addressed

Renewable Energy Communities are becoming a practical route for companies, municipalities, energy service providers and local communities to reduce energy costs, increase renewable self-consumption and create new energy services. However, developing a community is not only a matter of installing photovoltaic panels, batteries or smart meters. Promoters and community managers need to decide how to size the assets, operate the community, allocate shared energy, compensate members and keep the business model financially viable.

This creates a real operational burden for industry. Community managers, utilities, aggregators and energy service companies must deal with multiple members, consumption profiles, ownership models, tariffs, flexible assets and settlement rules. Without a dedicated digital layer, many projects remain hard to scale beyond pilots because energy sharing, billing support, benefit allocation and flexibility management become complex, time-consuming and difficult to explain to members.

 

Technology

RECreation is a modular software platform that helps promoters and managers size, manage and operate Renewable Energy Communities and Collective Self-Consumption schemes. The platform supports the planning of distributed energy assets, the operation of local energy sharing, the calculation of internal energy transactions and the settlement of financial compensations between community members.

The solution combines pre-delivery and post-delivery decision layers. Before delivery, RECreation can support the sizing and operation of distributed energy resources, such as photovoltaic systems, batteries, electric vehicles and other flexible assets. After delivery, it uses measured data to calculate local energy transactions, dynamic allocation coefficients and compensation flows. Its microservices-based architecture enables integration with external systems, including metering, billing, energy management, flexibility market platforms and SAP BTP-based environments.
