Marine Infrastructures
[Open soon]
Work description
The recruited researcher will carry out applied and fundamental research in the field of floating offshore renewable energy (ORE), dynamic power cable systems, and mooring hydrodynamics. The work will include the numerical assessment and dynamic simulation of mooring systems, dynamic power cable systems, as well as the study of the hydrodynamics of offshore structures and ocean energy converters using specialised software. he researcher will also conduct physical scale modelling and experimental analysis in ocean basins, and apply machine learning and surrogate modelling techniques to optimise offshore system design. Duties will include metocean analysis, vortex-induced vibration (VIV) assessment of dynamic cables and other floating structures, and contribution to innovation projects in the offshore wind and marine renewable energy sector. The researcher will contribute to the implementation and preparation of innovation and technological development projects directly related to the offshore maritime industry.
Academic Qualifications
PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related scientific fields.
Minimum profile required
Experience in numerical modelling and optimisation of dynamic power cable configurations for floating offshore structures, using software such as OrcaFlex; experience in physical scale modelling and experimental testing in ocean basins; and knowledge of mooring system dynamics and offshore renewable energy systems.
