Sustainable deliveries: researchers aim to support retailers in addressing environmental impact of online shopping

Online shopping and just-in-time delivery – or almost. We became familiarised with this scenario over the past few years, mainly because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The environmental impact of new retail strategies is not yet fully known, particularly regarding new business models and consumption habits, associated with e-commerce; this was the starting point of the e-LOG project, led by INESC TEC, which has now come to an end.

Researchers support the manufacturing industry by anticipating disruptions in supply chains

Over the next three years, a group of European researchers, including a team from INESC TEC, will work on the development of management models to support the manufacturing industry – namely small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs); the goal is to identify potential disruptions in current and future supply chains. This work will take place within the European RISE-SME project, focusing on four industrial ecosystems: Agro-food, Digital, Mobility and Transportation, and Textile.

INESC TEC develops strategic and technological plan for the Advanced Production Systems sector in the Entre Douro and Vouga region

On May 9, INESC TEC presented the i4.0 strategic and technological plan for the Advanced Production Systems (SAP) sector in the Entre Douro and Vouga region, developed within the scope of the SAP 4.0 project; the event took place at the SIMOLDES group test centre, in Oliveira de Azeméis. The session also featured the presentation of a success case within the scope of digitalisation, promoted by the company SIMOLDES PLÁSTICOS S.A.

INESC TEC researcher selected for internship at MIT

Henrique Diogo Silva, researcher at INESC TEC and PhD student at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), is one of the winners of this year’s edition of the R&D@USA grant programme, promoted by the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) and the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Those selected have the possibility to carry out a research internship in the United States of America.

Close to 40 entrepreneurs and managers, representatives of technology demonstrators and researchers from the scientific and technological ecosystem participated in the innovation workshops promoted within the scope of the SAP 4.0 project; the initiative took place at INESC TEC’s iiLab – Industry and Innovation Laboratory. The project is promoted by the Business Association of Oliveira de Azeméis (AECOA) and co-promoted by the Business Association of Santa Maria da Feira (AEF), with INESC TEC participating as technological partner.

INESC TEC supports the digital transition of companies in the region between Douro and Vouga

INESC TEC applied its digital maturity assessment methodology to analyse and characterise the level of digitalisation of companies in the Douro and Vouga region. The work developed within the scope of the SAP 4.0 project, promoted by the Oliveira de Azeméis Municipality Business Association (AECOA) and the Business Association of the Municipality of Santa Maria da Feira (AEF), allowed evaluating the level of digital maturity of companies and draw a picture that will serve as a basis for the development of the strategic technological plan towards the adoption of digital technologies for the benefit of companies.

Project brings augmented reality solution to the automotive industry

What if factory staff could wear glasses that allowed them to see, besides the real environment, an additional set of information, like instructions on production or quality control operations? This is the goal of the DEO – Digital Enhanced Operator, a project that brings together INESC TEC, SkillAugment, and Volkswagen Autoeuropa; the goal is to integrate augmented reality into the automotive industry, improving the skills of operators and contributing to increased levels of productivity and production quality.
