INESC TEC is leading a project that aims to tackle food waste, by improving operational efficiency in the food value chain. The project, called Be Fresh – Integrating Consumer Behavior to Improve Food Value Chains, falls in with three of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely ending hunger, promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, and ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns. INESC TEC's new project will start in January 2022.

The European project FinTech (a FINancial supervision and TECHnology compliance training programme), coordinated in Portugal by INESC TEC, aims to help European regulators in the banking and financial sectors creating a common regulatory framework, suitable for the adoption of operational innovations promoted by Fintech, based on big data analysis, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and blockchain technologies. The new technologies will allow faster transactions, greater transparency and reduced operating costs in the sectors.

To bridge the gap between the analytical expressions derived from theory and the numerical models obtained with Machine Learning, towards the development of a novel paradigm and the creation of a tool that aims to address setbacks in different sectors, thus contributing to an innovative ecosystem focused on said paradigm. These are the fundamental objectives of the European project TRUST-AI – Transparent, Reliable and Unbiased Smart Tool for Artificial Intelligence, which will start in October 2020, with a funding of approximately €4M.

In 2017, almost 8 million people worldwide used car sharing as a means of transportation. Studies indicate that this number will increase five times by 2025[1]. In Portugal, there are three companies providing this service, all of them headquartered in Lisbon; they comprehend a fleet of 400 vehicles, which, compared to other European cities, represents a relatively low offer.
