José Carlos Príncipe awarded by IEEE

José Carlos Príncipe, former Chairman of INESC TEC’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) was awarded with the 2020 IEEE SPS Claude Shannon-Harry Nyquist Technical Achievement Award, for “fundamental contributions to adaptive learning systems”, according to the board of IEEE Signal Processing Society Awards.

According to José Carlos Príncipe, this acknowledgment was only possible thanks to “all my students and colleagues, including INESC TEC as well”, said the visiting professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). José Carlos Príncipe, IEEE Fellow, lectures at the University of Florida since 1987, where he is the Founding Director of the Computational NeuroEngineering Laboratory. He is one of the world leaders in the area of Computational Neuroengineering.

The 2020 IEEE SPS Claude Shannon-Harry Nyquist Technical Achievement Award honours people who, over the years, have made outstanding technical contributions to theory and/or practice in technical areas within the Society, demonstrated through publications, patents, or a clear impact on the area. The prize will be presented at ICASSP 2021, which will take place in June next year, in Canada.
