INESC TEC’s researchers visit the Biomass Centre for Energy

A team of researchers from INESC TEC visited the Biomass Centre for Energy (CBE) in Miranda do Corvo on 12 July. CBE is an association that was created in 1988, whose mission is to contribute to the energy diversification, promoting the use of biomass for the energy production.

24th August 2018

The CBE technical team, Alexandra Marques and Jorge Cunha, researchers of INESC TEC’s Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE), presented the research results of projects related to the optimisation of the biomass supply chains.

The following projects were highlighted in the presentation: the FOCUS – Advances in Forestry Control and Automation Systems in Europe- project funded by FP7; the EasyFlow - A Collaborative Platform for coordinating the logistics in the forest-based supply chain towards sustainability- project funded by FCT; and the BIOTECFOR - Biobusiness and Technology for the efficient valorisation of endogenous forest resources in the North of Portugal and Galicia - project funded by the programme Interreg V-A Spain-Portugal 2014-2020 (POCTEP).

A set of synergies were identified from the outset and should now be further developed, by enhancing some collaborations oriented to the better use of forest biomass for energy purposes. The optimisation of the logistic processes associated with the mobilisation of forest biomass and the need to diversify its use as an energy source were subjects highlighted by both entities. The challenge for future collaborations between both entities is now issued.
