INESC TEC hosts one of the largest conferences on computer systems

The EuroSys - European Conference on Computer Systems, which is one of the world’s largest conferences on computer systems, took place in the city of Porto between 23 and 26 April. Around 300 participants from all over the world attended this conference, known as one of the largest international conferences on computer systems.

The EUROSYS 2018 conference gathered 300 people from all over the world

EuroSys has become a premier forum for discussing issues of systems software research and development, including their hardware dependency.  This year, the international conference was organise by INESC TEC and by the University of Minho and took place at Palácio do Freixo.

The EuroSys 2018 was financially supported by companies such as VMWare, Microsoft, RedHat, Facebook, Oracle, NATIXIS, IBM Research, Google, OutSystems and Maxdata. The record of papers submitted was beaten: with 262 papers of which 43 were accepted and presented.

Portuguese organisation is highlighted in the opening session

The opening session took place on the second day in the main conference that began with the speech of Rui Oliveira, the president of the organising committee and INESC TEC’s researcher.

“Besides OSDI and SOSP, EuroSys is one of the best conferences on computer systems. The scientific results of the conference program are always innovative and with great importance and impact. The fact that the conference was held in Portugal shows to a large extent the significant presence of Portuguese researchers in the community” mentioned Rui Oliveira.

The event was considered a “great success”. The local organisation was possible due to “the invaluable dedication of INESC TEC’s services throughout several months and to eighteen tireless volunteers from INESC TEC and University of Minho”, highlighted Rui Oliveira.

Workshops focused on research and development

The 13th edition of EuroSys started with six workshops in parallel sessions, namely:
-    12th EuroSys Doctoral Workshop (EuroDW 2018)
-    11th European Workshop on Systems Security (EuroSec 2018)
-    8th Workshop on Systems for Multi-core and Heterogeneous Architectures (SFMA 2018)
-    5th Workshop on CrossCloud Infrastructures & Platforms (CrossCloud 2018)
-    1st Workshop on Privacy by Design in Distributed Systems (W-P2DS 2018)
-    5th Workshop on Principles and Practice of Consistency for Distributed Data (PaPoC 2018)

Seven prizes including Awards, Distinctions and Honourable Mentions

During the event, some awards of different categories were given, namely:
