INESC TEC article accepted for publication in an IEEE conference

An article entitled “Efficient Synchronization of State-based CRDTs”, authored by Vítor Enes, Paulo Sérgio Almeida and Carlos Baquero, researchers of INESC TEC’s High-Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab), together with João Leitão, researcher at NOVA LINCS, was accepted for publication in the 35th IEEE International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE 2019).

20th March 2019

This article results from an MSc thesis about CRDTs previously developed in HASLab. CRDTs are key components in modern geo-replicated systems, such as Riak, Redis and Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB, and have been adopted by many in industry, such as Bet365, SoundCloud and PayPal. The article advances the theory behind CRDTs by bringing the concept of join decompositions in lattices (by Birkhoff in 1937) to state-based CRDTs. This same concept is then exploited to obtain optimal delta states and to improve the efficiency of synchronization algorithms.

It is important to note that ICDE is a top-tier conference in the area of data-intensive applications and has received the A* rating from the Australian CORE ranking and the 2019’s edition will take place in Macau between 8 and 12 April.
