Framework: Code of Ethics of INESC TEC

Any misconduct that violates the ethical principles, general duties of conduct and specific duties of researchers, as defined in the Code of Ethics of INESC TEC, may be reported through this channel, if it was committed less than 3 years ago.

Person Responsible for receiving and following up on Reports: President of Ethics Committee, currently Prof. Pedro Guedes de Oliveira, who will do the initial screening of Reports and forward them to the Chief Executive Officer.

Response deadlines:

  • 10 working days from the date of receipt of the Report: initial screening, assessment, and notification to the complainant.
  • 10 working days from the date of the notification to the Complainant that an investigation is not warranted for the latter to respond in writing to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
  • Other deadlines according to paragraphs 6 et seq. of the APPENDIX IV to the Code of Ethics.

Record Keeping: 6 years from the termination of relationship between INESC TEC and the person concerned in the report, except when they constitute evidence of legal action, case in which it must be kept until the final judgment.

Follow-up to the Report:  If the investigation continues, the procedures set out in paragraph 6 and following of the Procedure in Appendix IV to the Code of Ethics will apply.

Anonymous complaints: The CEO may, at his own discretion, consider anonymous reports and assess the seriousness of the issues raised, their credibility and the possibility of confirming the complaint through a credible source. Depending on the outcome of this assessment, he/she may decide to investigate the anonymous complaint in accordance with this procedure.

The notification of receipt of the Report and communication to the complainant of the measures planned or adopted, follow the same deadlines as identified complaints. However, it can only be consulted, and the Report can only be followed-up by entering the unique report number generated at the time of submission into the platform. This ensures that the identity of the complainant is not known to those who receive and follow up the Report.
