Preserving Privacy of Smart Meter Data in a Smart Grid Environment

Abstract
The use of data from residential smart meters can help in the management and control of distribution grids. This provides significant benefits to electricity retailers as well as distribution system operators but raises important questions related to the privacy of consumers' information. In this article, an innovative differential privacy (DP) compliant algorithm is developed to ensure that the data from consumer's smart meters are protected. The effects of this novel algorithm on the operation of the distribution grid are thoroughly investigated not only from a consumer's electricity bill point of view but also from a power systems point of view. This method allows for an empirical investigation into the losses, power quality issues, and extra costs that such a privacy-preserving mechanism may introduce to the system. In addition, severalcost allocation mechanisms based on the cooperative game theory are used to ensure that the extra costs are divided among the participants in a fair, efficient, and equitable manner. Overall, the comprehensive results show that the approach provides privacy preservation in line with the consumer's preferences and does not lead to significant cost or loss increases for the energy retailer. In addition, the novel algorithm is computationally efficient and performs very well with a large number of consumers, thus demonstrating its scalability.

On-line three-dimensional packing problems: A review of off-line and on-line solution approaches

Abstract
Three-Dimensional Packing Problems (3D-PPs) can be applied to effectively reduce logistics costs in various areas, such as airline cargo management and warehouse management. In general, 3D-PP studies can be divided into two different streams: those tackling the off-line problem, where full knowledge about items is available beforehand; and those tackling the on-line (real-time) problem, where items arrive one by one and should be packed immediately without having full prior knowledge about them. During the past decades, off-line and online 3D-PPs have been studied in the literature with various constraints and solution approaches. However, and despite the numerous practical applications of on-line problems in real-world situations, most of the literature to date has focused on off-line problems and is quite sparse when it comes to on-line solution methods. In this regard, and despite the different nature of on-line and off-line problems, some approaches can be applied in both environments. Hence, we conducted an in-depth and updated literature review to identify and structure various constraints and solution methods employed by researchers in off-line and on-line 3D-PPs. Building on this, by bringing together the two separate streams of the literature, we identified several off-line approaches that can be adopted in on-line environments. Additionally, we addressed relevant research gaps and ways to bridge them in the future, which can help to develop this research field.

FollowMe - A Pedestrian Following Algorithm for Agricultural Logistic Robots

Abstract
In Industry 4.0 and Agriculture 4.0, there are logistics areas where robots can play an important role, for example by following a person at a certain distance. These robots can transport heavy tools or simply help collect certain items, such as harvested fruits. The use of Ultra Wide Band (UWB) transceivers as range sensors is becoming very common in the field of robotics, i.e. for localising goods and machines. Since UWB technology has very accurate time resolution, it is advantageous for techniques such as Time Of Arrival (TOA), which can estimate distance by measuring the time between message frames. In this work, UWB transceivers are used as range sensors to track pedestrians/operators. In this work we propose the use of two algorithms for relative localization, between a person and robot. Both algorithms use a similar 2dimensional occupancy grid, but differ in filtering. The first is based on a Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) that fuses the range sensor with odometry. The second is based on an Histogram Filter that calculates the pedestrian position by discretizing the state space in well-defined regions. Finally, a controller is implemented to autonomously command the robot. Both approaches are tested and compared on a real differential drive robot. Both proposed solutions are able to follow a pedestrian at speeds of 0.1m/s, and are promising solutions to complement other solutions based on cameras and LiDAR.

e-Marketing Influence on Rural Tourism Destination Sustainability: A Conceptual Approach

Abstract
As the demand for rural tourism destinations increases, the relevancy of the tourism sector to the overall destination sustainability becomes even more significant, and the existing tourism operators transition their marketing initiatives to a digital nature, it is critical to understand how the global quality of the implemented e-marketing initiatives are impacting rural destinations image and brand equity, how they trigger tourists' intention to visit, and as a consequence foster overall destination sustainability. Hence, a novel conceptual model, drawn on Delone & McLean Information Systems Success model, Tan & Wu model on the relations between destination image and future visit behavior, and on the overall brand equity context presented by Verma, is proposed and the multiple implications on the presented artefact are discussed.

Digital Ecosystem Model for GIAHS: The Barroso Agro-Sylvo-Pastoral System

Abstract
Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) territories are highly relevant to achieving sustainable lifestyles with human subsistence in balance with the ecosystem. The Barroso agro-sylvo-pastoral system is a clear example of this alignment between existing society, nature and natural resources, the environment, landscapes, and contextual heritage. Moreover, the sustainable use of existing natural resources, excellent environmental conditions, and breath-taking untouched landscapes represent a truly relevant factor towards the development of a region economy that is still greatly influenced by an engraved cultural, patrimonial, and agricultural heritage. Given the GIAHS classification attributed to that territory, the need arises to guarantee the existing environmental conditions. This context will allow the maintenance of the GIAHS classification, ensuring the quality of life in the region and stimulating its socio-economic development and overall sustainability. The present article describes a proposal for a digital ecosystem model aimed at the Barroso GIAHS, composed of four main functional hubs that actively interact with each other: smart environment, smart government, smart economy, and smart people. Based on wireless sensor networks, IoT, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and other technological solutions, this solution will allow real-time control of the territory's environmental conditions and develop more efficient and well-supported management and governance.
