PROCEEDINGS OF THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT FOR ENHANCING ACCESSIBILITY AND FIGHTING INFO-EXCLUSION (DSAI 2010)
Abstract
Web accessibility presents itself as one the most important factors for the equality of societies in the modern days. This document is a simple and clear snapshot of the accessibility status of the websites of the Banks with activity in Portugal. Economic activities are part of everyday life since always. The banking sector has a large dimension for a long time, and has been doing a major contribution to economic growth in Portugal. We present an evaluation of the Portuguese banks websites against W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0. The results that were obtained show a severe lack of accessibility in the evaluated websites, what can be translated in the existence of a great number of barriers to all citizens that present some sort of disability.

ACM COMPUTING SURVEYS
Abstract
Reconfigurable computing platforms offer the promise of substantially accelerating computations through the concurrent nature of hardware structures and the ability of these architectures for hardware customization. Effectively programming such reconfigurable architectures, however, is an extremely cumbersome and error-prone process, as it requires programmers to assume the role of hardware designers while mastering hardware description languages, thus limiting the acceptance and dissemination of this promising technology. To address this problem, researchers have developed numerous approaches at both the programming languages as well as the compilation levels, to offer high-level programming abstractions that would allow programmers to easily map applications to reconfigurable architectures. This survey describes the major research efforts on compilation techniques for reconfigurable computing architectures. The survey focuses on efforts that map computations written in imperative programming languages to reconfigurable architectures and identifies the main compilation and synthesis techniques used in this mapping.

Abstract
We describe the effects of the electron trapping due to the background ions in a Rydberg plasma. In the early stages, the ions are not thermalized and obey a Gaussian spatial profile, trapping the coldest electrons. In the present work, we provide expressions for both the electrostatic potential and the electron spatial profiles in two different regimes. We show that in the strong confinement regime F » T/e, a Rydberg plasma can be described by a Thomas-Fermi potential, similar to that obtained for heavy atomic species.

WEBIST 2010: PROCEEDINGS OF THE 6TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON WEB INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY, VOL 2
Abstract
Web accessibility is growing in importance as each day goes by. Alongside with this growth, also the need of access to web resources, by those with some sort of disability, is increasing. The web is very important for spreading information and for the interaction between the various society elements. Given this, it's mandatory that the web presents itself as a totally accessible resource, so that it can help the disable citizens in their integration within the society. This obligation should be even bigger for the enterprises because, in their majority, the web is used as a marketing and business platform. This document is meant to be a position paper regarding the comparison of results between web accessibility evaluations of the Portuguese websites using version 1 and version 2 of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

Abstract
Time series motif discovery is an important problem with applications in a variety of areas that range from telecommunications to medicine. Several algorithms have been proposed to solve the problem. However, these algorithms heavily use expensive random disk accesses or assume the data can fit into main memory. They only consider motifs at a single resolution and are not suited to interactivity. In this work, we tackle the motif discovery problem as an approximate Top-K frequent subsequence discovery problem. We fully exploit state of the art iSAX representation multiresolution capability to obtain motifs at different resolutions. This property yields interactivity, allowing the user to navigate along the Top-K motifs structure. This permits a deeper understanding of the time series database. Further, we apply the Top-K space saving algorithm to our frequent subsequences approach. A scalable algorithm is obtained that is suitable for data stream like applications where small memory devices such as sensors are used. Our approach is scalable and disk-efficient since it only needs one single pass over the time series database. We provide empirical evidence of the validity of the algorithm in datasets from different areas that aim to represent practical applications. Copyright © by SIAM.
