Abstract
Parallel programming has become mandatory to fully exploit the potential of multi-core CPUs. The dataflow model provides a natural way to exploit parallelism. However, specifying dependences and control using fine-grained instructions in dataflow programs can be complex and present unwanted overheads. To address this issue, we have designed TALM: a coarse-grained dataflow execution model to be used on top of widespread architectures. We implemented TALM as the Trebuchet virtual machine for multi-cores. The programmer identifies code blocks that can run in parallel and connects them to form a dataflow graph, which allows one to have the benefits of parallel dataflow execution in a Von Neumann machine, with small programming effort. We parallelised a set of seven applications using our approach and compared with OpenMP implementations. Results show that Trebuchet can be competitive with state-of-the-art technology, while providing the benefits of dataflow execution. Copyright © 2011 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Abstract
Automatic image registration is still an actual challenge in several fields. Although several methods for automatic image registration have been proposed in the last few years, it is still far from a broad use in several applications, such as in remote sensing. In this paper, a method for automatic image registration through histogram-based image segmentation (HAIRIS) is proposed. This new approach mainly consists in combining several segmentations of the pair of images to be registered, according to a relaxation parameter on the histogram modes delineation (which itself is a new approach), followed by a consistent characterization of the extracted objects-through the objects area, ratio between the axis of the adjust ellipse, perimeter and fractal dimension-and a robust statistical based procedure for objects matching. The application of the proposed methodology is illustrated to simulated rotation and translation. The first dataset consists in a photograph and a rotated and shifted version of the same photograph, with different levels of added noise. It was also applied to a pair of satellite images with different spectral content and simulated translation, and to real remote sensing examples comprising different viewing angles, different acquisition dates and different sensors. An accuracy below 1 for rotation and at the subpixel level for translation were obtained, for the most part of the considered situations. HAIRIS allows for the registration of pairs of images (multitemporal and multisensor) with differences in rotation and translation, with small differences in the spectral content, leading to a subpixel accuracy.

Abstract
In this paper we propose a solution to strengthen the security of Domain Name System (DNS) servers associated with one or more Top Level Domains (TLD). In this way we intend to be able to reduce the security risk when using major internet services, based on DNS. The proposed solution has been developed and tested at FCCN, the TLD manager for the. PT domain. Through the implementation of network sensors that monitor the network in real-time, we are capable to dynamically prevent, detect or limit the scope of attempted intrusions or other types of occurrences to the DNS service. The platform relies heavily on cross-correlation allowing data from a particular sensor to be shared with the others. Administration tasks such as setting up alarms or performing statistical analysis are made through a web-based interface. © 2011 Polish Info Processing Soc.
