Abstract
In the present paper an advanced control system for the optimal operation and management of medium size power systems with large penetration from renewable power sources is presented. This control system is aimed to assist the power system operators in their managing task, by proposing them optimal actions for the economic and secure management of the power system. The control system is composed of various modules performing functions like short-term forecasting of the load and of the renewable sources, economic dispatch of the power units and on-line dynamic security assessment. The pilot control system is being installed and evaluated in the Greek island of Lemnos.

Abstract
ATM, the Asynchronous Transfer Mode cell-based switching technique, was finally recognized in 1992 by the relevant International standardization entities, as the switching and multiplexing solution for implementing the future Broadband Integrated Services Digital Network (B-ISDN). Because of its service-independent characteristics. ATM will provide B-ISDN with capabilities for integrated support of a wide range of services in a very flexible and efficient way. Transmission of multimedia services in the B-ISDN is currently being addressed by several Study Groups of ITU-T and ETSI. In addition to identifying the required network capabilities and to defining the functional model of multimedia services in the B-ISDN, the possible alternatives for performing the multiplexing operation of the different components of a multimedia application are also being evaluated. The MPEG2 standard (ISO/IEC 13818), which is now in its final phase of specification, is being accepted worldwide as the appropriate coding technique to implement almost all types of video applications and multimedia services involving good-quality fullmotion video. It seems therefore important to evaluate the alternatives for performing the multiplexing operation of the elementary components of an MPEG2-based multimedia application over ATM networks. In fact, different Study Groups of both ITU-T and ETSI, as well as the ATM Forum, are now evaluating alternatives for. mapping MPEG2 streams into ATM cells.

INTERNATIONAL TEST CONFERENCE 1993 PROCEEDINGS: DESIGNING, TESTING, AND DIAGNOSTICS - JOIN THEM

Abstract
BST is a well established standard and testability framework for digital ICs and boards. The paper presents a test support IC controlled by an IEEE1149.1 interface, capable of providing access to analog nodes in mixed-signal boards. The proposed architecture (ABSINT - Analog to Boundary Scan Interface) is described and relevant implementation issues are discussed. A demonstrator IC implementing the ABSINT architecture is presented, and it is shown how it can be used to provide analog test channels under control of IEEE1149.1.

Abstract
This paper1 contains a proposal for a knowledge representation formalism based on a taxonomy of theories. It aims at clarifying the notions of inheritance and dependency among properties and classes, which are mixed together in the “inheritance networks” formalism, while also providing more expressiveness. A model-theoretic semantics in terms of sets of individuals is presented, which is parametric on the characterization of specificity. The case most thoroughly presented is rule inheritance which builds on the assumption that only facts have the force to impose overriding. A double denotation for classes, corresponding to two nested sets, is the key for interpreting defaults and exceptions. The problem of ambiguity propagation in the resulting system is addressed in the context of a discussion of the relationship between it and inheritance nets. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 1993.
