Abstract
In this paper we address the P-NET Medium Access Control (MAC) ability to schedule traffic according to its real-time requirements, in order to support real-time distributed applications. We provide a schedulability analysis based on the P-NET standard, and propose mechanisms to overcome priority inversion problems resulting from the use of FIFO outgoing buffers.

Abstract
This paper presents an inductive method that learns a logic program represented as an ordered list of clauses. The input consists of a training set of positive examples and background knowledge represented intensionally as a logic program. Our method starts by constructing the explanations of all the positive examples in terms of background knowledge, linking the input to the output arguments. These are used as candidate hypotheses and organized, by relation of generality, into a set of hierarchies (forest). In the second step the candidate hypotheses are analysed with the aim of establishing their effective coverage. In the third step all the inconsistencies are evaluated. This analysis permits to add, at each step, the best hypothesis to the theory. The method was applied to learn the past tense of English verbs. The method presented achieves more accurate results than the previous work by Mooney and Califf [7]. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 1998.

Abstract
A digital signal processing technique for interferometric peak localization in white Light sensing systems is presented. The procedure is based on computational processing of the acquired interferometric signal using Fourier mathematical operations for fringe visibility improvement. Tests are made by computer simulations. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. [S0034-6748(98)03807-6]

Abstract
This paper presents a comparative study of several methods for estimating the true error of tree-structured regression models. We evaluate these methods in the context of regression tree pruning. The study is focused on problems where large samples of data are available. We present two novel variants of existent estimation methods. We evaluate several methods that follow different approaches to the estimation problem, and perform experimental evaluation in twelve domains. The goal of this evaluation is to characterise the performance of the methods in the task of selecting the best possible tree among the alternative trees considered during pruning. The results of the comparison show that certain estimators lead to very bad decisionsin some domains. Our proposed variant of the holdout method obtained the best results in the experimental comparisons. © Springer-Veriag Berlin Heidelberg 1998.

Abstract
This paper presents a methodology developed within the SOLARGIS project - a Joule project - aiming at evaluating the potential of integrating renewable forms of energy for dispersed electricity production. With this project we also wanted to demonstrate the efficiency of GIS - Geographical Information Systems - as a tool to analyse the integration of renewable forms of energy. In this paper we present the methodologies developed to identify renewable resources in a given geographic region, to detect high potential areas for wind farm siting and to evaluate the efficiency and market of isolated systems to be used for dispersed rural electrification. In this last methodology we used fuzzy models to describe the uncertainties in demand and cost values.
