Abstract
In this paper we describe how to integrate Internet protocols (TCP/IP) into a typical hierarchical master-slave fieldbus network, supporting a logical ring token passing mechanism between master stations. The integration of TCP/IP in the fieldbus protocol rises a number of issues that must be addressed properly. In this paper we particularly address the issues related to the conveyance of IP Datagrams in fieldbus frames (fragmentation/de-fragmentation) and on how to support the symmetry inherent to the TCP/IP protocols in fieldbus slaves, which lack communication initiative. Abstract
Cross-validation (CV) is the most accurate method available for algorithm recommendation but it is rather slow. We show that information about the past performance of algorithms can be used for the same purpose with small loss in accuracy and significant savings in experimentation time. We use a meta-learning framework that combines a simple IBL algorithm with a ranking method. We show that results improve significantly by using a set of selected measures that represent data characteristics that permit to predict algorithm performance. Our results also indicate that the choice of ranking method as a smaller effect on the quality of recommendations. Finally, we present situations that illustrate the advantage of providing recommendation as a ranking of the candidate algorithms, rather than as the single algorithm which is expected to perform best.

COLLABORATIVE BUSINESS ECOSYSTEMS AND VIRTUAL ENTERPRISES

Abstract
This paper proposes a first version of a conceptual framework based on Social Actors Networks (SAN) to support the process of creation and configuration of Networked and Virtual Enterprises (N/VE). The concept of SAN is explained and applied in the context of N/VE, highlighting the potential benefits in the analysis and specification of agent based information systems. This approach is partially being tested in a distributed Decision Support System, designed around a flexible and robust agent-based information system architecture.

Abstract
Profibus DP networks are often used as the communication infrastructure for supporting distributed computer-controlled applications, which, very often, impose strict real-time requirements. The aim of this paper is to present a novel methodology for evaluating the worst-case message response time in Profibus DP networks where high and low priority information flows coexist.

Abstract
The series of graphs presented here, based on standard time series diagnostics and display graphs, eases the tasks of identifying and checking an ARIMA model. Each diagnostic display consists of a matrix of plots for a series of ARIMA(p, d, q) models (with p = 1:p(max), q =1:q(max) and d constant). In this way the identification phase of the analysis is eased because the analyst can directly see the incremental effect of each proposed term. The direct visual comparison of the models is helpful to the experienced analyst because it makes immediate the difference in the explanatory capabilities of the various models. The series of plots is very helpful in presenting time series concepts, particularly the identification phase, to introductory classes. The plots have been implemented using the Trellis system in S-Plus.

Abstract
Theoretical and experimental results were presented which validated a new dual interferometric configuration with serrodyne processing for the remote sensing of electrical current. Linearity and waveform reproduction at 50 Hz were observed and a current resolution (˜22.4 ArmsHz- 1/2) was obtained. The utilization of the proposed interferometric concept to simultaneously perform metering and relaying current measurements was also addressed. © 2002 IEEE.
