Abstract
The paper presents an end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) architecture suitable for IP communications scenarios that include UMTS access networks. The rationale for the architecture is justified and its main features are described, notably the QoS management functions on the terminal equipment, the mapping between IP and UMTS QoS parameters and the negotiation of these parameters.

Abstract
The basic principles of a methodology for remote collaborative data mining are proposed. Starting from CRISP-DM, a general data mining process designed to carry out data mining projects; it is described how the principles of knowledge sharing and ease of communication can be embedded in the data mining process, The aim is to allow the execution of data mining projects, with the participation of multiple experts working from distant locations. All the participants in such a project can profit from the knowledge produced by others and share their knowledge online with the other participants. The produced knowledge (for example data transformations, working hypothesis, models, results of experiments) is also stored for future inspection and use, in pursuit of organizational learning. A prototypical implementation (RAMSYS) of the remote collaborative methodology is described with examples.

Abstract
A flow injection analysis (FIA) device has been developed, which is able to assay successfully for biomass in a microalga bioreactor. The device is fully computerized and is operated via diluting small aliquots of the culture followed by measuring optical density (OD); this figure is then accurately correlated with biomass, in terms of both cell number and ash-free dry weight, during the entire culture time. Furthermore, the device is not expensive, is highly versatile, and is easy to operate owing to specifically developed, user-friendly software. The growth rate-and biomass productivity of Pavlova lutheri, cultivated under batch and semicontinuous modes, were monitored. as experiniental testing model.

Abstract
In this paper we present an implementation of the general system for type inference algorithms HM(X), using Prolog and Constraint Handling Rules. In our implementation the difference between the general aspects of the type inference algorithms and the constraint resolution module becomes clearer, when compared to other implementations of the same systems, usually made in a functional programming language. In the constraint module, solving equality constraints, here implemented by Prolog unification, is completely separated from constraint simplification, which is made by a solver implemented in CHR for each system. CHR rules become a clear and natural way of specifying the simplification mechanism. © 2002 Publishd by Elsevier Science B.V.

Abstract
Penetration of renewable energy sources in isolated and weakly interconnected power systems can be increased in a secure and reliable way, if advanced control tools are available to the operators of these systems. In this paper the functions of MORE CARE are described. This is an advanced control software system aiming to optimize the operation of isolated and weakly interconnected systems by increasing the share of wind energy and other renewable forms, taking into account pumped hydro storage facilities and providing advanced on-line security functions, both in preventive and corrective mode. The main features of the control system comprise advanced software modules for load and wind power forecasting, unit commitment and economic dispatch of the conventional and renewable units and on-line security assessment capabilities integrated in a friendly Man-Machine environment. In this way, penetration of renewable energy sources in isolated systems can be increased in a secure and reliable way. Pilot installations of advanced control functions are foreseen on the islands of Crete, Ireland and Madeira.
