EVOLUTIONARY MULTI-CRITERION OPTIMIZATION

Abstract
Obtaining a well distributed non-dominated Pareto front is one of the key issues in multi-objective optimization algorithms. This paper proposes a new variant for the elitist selection operator to the NSGA-II algorithm, which promotes well distributed non-dominated fronts. The basic idea is to replace the crowding distance method by a maximin technique. The proposed technique is deployed in well known test functions and compared with the crowding distance method used in the NSGA-II algorithm. This comparison is performed in terms of achieved front solutions distribution by using distance performance indices.

Abstract
Spearman's rank correlation coefficient is not entirely suitable for measuring the correlation between two rankings in some applications because it treats all ranks equally. In 2000, Blest proposed an alternative measure of correlation that gives more importance to higher ranks but has some drawbacks. This paper proposes a weighted rank measure of correlation that weights the distance between two ranks using a linear function of those ranks, giving more importance to higher ranks than lower ones. It analyses its distribution and provides a table of critical values to test whether a given value of the coefficient is significantly different from zero. The paper also summarizes a number of applications for which the new measure is more suitable than Spearman's.

Abstract
In this paper we present a Decision Support System (DSS) to deal with the partner selection problem taking place in the formation or re-organization of a Virtual Enterprise (VE). This DSS is based on a multi-criteria model and handles several types of data (numerical, interval, linguistic and binary). This approach is used to facilitate the expression of the decision maker's preferences and assessments about the potential partners and can be performed individually or by group. The system also allows the assignment of a degree of confidence to each linguistic statement. the operation of the DSS is structured in two phases. In the first phase it determines the set of non-dominated alternatives (potential VEs) through the use of meta-heuristics. The second phase ranks the alternatives for a possible network of enterprises configuring the VE. This is achieved through a procedure based on linguistic analysis and distance measures.

Abstract
This paper presents an overview of a simulation platform for studying the behavior of energy retail markets where multiple energies enter in competition. This platform is based on autonomous agent techniques. The simulations include agents representing Residential, Commercial and Industrial Consumer Groups, Electricity, Gas, Heat Retail Suppliers and Energy Deliverers, Regulators, Market Operators, Economy and Information Environment. Each pursues its own interests and from their interaction a complex collective behavior emerges. Agents formulate their strategies namely by inner complex simulation process that try to guess other agent move s and define optimum decisions in energy purchasing, price fixing, market share wining, investing and capturing new consumers, among other. The process works on a FIPA complying platform being able to run in a parallel cluster machines.

Abstract
This paper presents a sensing head based on a Bragg grating written in an elliptical cladding Hi-Bi fibre partially exposed to chemical etching for reduction of the cladding diameter. With this sensing head geometry different strain and similar temperature sensitivities are achieved.

Abstract
This paper presents the structure of a negotiation aid system (NAS) to select the best locations for new DG facilities, using sophisticated spatial techniques [based on geographical information systems (GISs)] and decision aid methodologies for negotiation, based on consensus among groups that may have conflicting interests. This system helps to overcome the problems posed by initially opposing positions stemming from diverse technological, economic, environmental and/or social interests. The NAS use is illustrated with results from a negotiation process between two groups to select locations for new wind farms in the region of La Rioja, Spain.
