Abstract
The development of intelligent wheelchairs is a very good solution to assist severely handicapped people who are unable to operate classical electrical wheelchair by themselves in their daily activities. This paper describes the integration of a robotic simulator with our intelligent wheelchair shared control and planning modules. An adapted version of the free Cyber-Mouse robotic simulator was used to simulate the movement of the intelligent wheelchair in a hospital environment. Adaptations of the subsumption architecture, Strips Planning and A* Algorithms were employed and integrated to allow wheelchair intelligent behavior. The experimental results have demonstrated the success of the integration of these algorithms in our simulator allowing very safe motion of the intelligent wheelchair in the simulated hospital environment. Also, the adapted Cyber-Mouse simulator proved its capability and robustness in simulating the hospital environment and wheelchair physic characteristics.

INNOVATION IN MANUFACTURING NETWORKS

Abstract
This paper describes ebXML. It gives an overview on its background and architecture, approved under the ISO/TS 15000. It also analyzes implementations of the standards' modules as well as initiatives concerning its development and adoption. Other frameworks' efforts on convergence with ebXML are discussed as well as expectations on its place in the future for electronic business.

Abstract
In this work, we study the behaviour of different resource scheduling strategies when doing job orchestration in grid environments. We empirically demonstrate that scheduling strategies based on Reinforcement Learning are a good choice to improve the overall performance of grid applications and resource utilization.

Abstract
In this paper we present the architecture for the Personal Autonomic Desktop Manager, a self managing application designed to act on behalf of the user in several aspects: protection, healing, optimization and configuration. The overall goal of this research is to improve the correlation of the autonomic self* properties and doing so also enhance the overall self-management capacity of the desktop (autonomicity). We introduce the Circulatory Computing (CC) model, a self-managing system initiative based on the biological metaphor of the cardiovascular system, and use its concepts in the design and implementation of the architecture.

Selected Readings on Information Technology and Business Systems Management

Abstract
The rapid evolution of information and communication technologies, the changing client's demands, and market conditions impelled enterprises to adapt their way of undertaking business, from traditional practices to e-business, and to participate in new forms of collaboration, such as networked organizations. In this context, standards, frameworks, technologies, and infrastructures supporting collaborative business, in a networked environment, become key factors in achieving environments with a desired high level of collaboration and inter- and intra-organization business processes alignment. The aim of this chapter is to underline the main issues, trends, and opportunities related to business integration from a technological perspective, analyzing and discussing the most relevant (existing and still under development) business integration reference models, frameworks, standards, technologies, and supporting infrastructures, and to briefly present relevant research projects in the area of business networking. A special emphasis is made on frameworks such as ebXML and RosettaNet, and the importance of papiNet, BPLE4WS, and freebXML is underlined. Challenges regarding self-forming networked organizations are also advanced. © 2009, IGI Global.
