INNOVATION IN MANUFACTURING NETWORKS
Abstract
As innovation is essential for the competitiveness of enterprises and economic development there is a question which has been raised with some insistence: Do teaching practices make a difference to innovation and entrepreneurship in the work place? Experts were contacted for their views. They say yes, as long as the teaching method is adequate. So, in the USA, a naturally innovative society, a new concept of integrated teaching was developed - "hands-on" to increase innovation ever more in North America. This concept proved also to be successful in a non-innovative society as is demonstrated by the case of MIETE (a partnership between FEUP and FEP, University of Porto) in Portugal.

Abstract
In this article, we introduce an iterative subspace system identification algorithm for MIMO linear parameter-varying systems with innovation-type noise models driven by general inputs and a measurable white noise time-varying parameter vector. The new algorithm is based on a convergent sequence of linear deterministic-stochastic state-space approximations, thus considered a Picard-based method. Such methods have proven to be convergent for the bilinear state-space system identification problem. Their greatest strength lies on the dimensions of the data matrices that are comparable to those of a linear subspace algorithm, thus avoiding the curse of dimensionality.

ENZYME AND MICROBIAL TECHNOLOGY
Abstract
The influence of light intensity upon biomass and fatty acid productivity by the microalga Pavlova lutheri was experimentally studied using a novel device. This device was designed to automatically adjust light intensity in a photobioreactor: it takes on-line measurements of biomass concentration, and was successfully tested to implement a feedback control of light based on the growth rate variation. Using said device, batch and semicontinuous cultures of P lutheri were maintained at maximum growth rates and biomass productivities - hence avoiding photoinhibition, and consequent waste of radiant energy. Several cultures were run with said device, and their performances were compared with those of control cultures submitted to constant light intensity; the biomass levels attained, as well as the yields of eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids were calculated - and were consistently higher than those of their uncontrolled counterpart.

Abstract
COORDINSPECTOR is a Software Tool aiming at extracting the coordination layer of a software system. Such a reverse engineering process provides a clear view of the actually invoked services as well as the logic behind such invocations. The analysis process is based on program slicing techniques and the generation of, System Dependence Graphs and Coordination Dependence Graphs. The tool analyzes Common Intermediate Language (CIL), the native language of the Microsoft Net Framework, thus making suitable for processing systems developed in any Net Framework compilable language. COORDINSPECTOR generates graphical representations of the coordination layer together with business process orchestrations specified in WS-BPEL 2.0.
