Abstract
A novel miniature fiber Bragg grating-based temperature probe is presented. The sensor design integrates a u-shape lossless taper, thus offering the advantages of a terminal temperature probe while enabling effective serial multiplexing. We report on the experimental validation of the temperature probe design, demonstrating lossless operation and effective elimination of strain cross-sensitivity.

Abstract
An all-optical clocked set-reset flip-flop is experimentally demonstrated. It is based on a hybrid-integrated S-R latch and two additional Mach-Zehnder interferometer structures with semiconductor optical amplifiers acting as AND logic gates. The switching behaviour of the synchronous S-R flip-flop was investigated and 18 dB extinction ratio performance was achieved.

Abstract
The analysis of dot blot (macroarray) images is currently based on the human identification of positive/negative dots, which is a subjective and time consuming process. This paper presents a system for the automatic analysis of dot blot images, using a pre-defined grid of markers, including a number of ON and OFF controls. The geometric deformations of the input image are corrected, and the individual markers detected, both tasks fully automatically. Based on a previous training stage, the probability for each marker to be ON is established. This information is provided together with quality parameters for training, noise and classification, allowing for a fully automatic evaluation of a dot blot image.

Abstract
Computed tomography (CT) can contribute to the early detection of lung diseases like emphysema, a chronic and progressive disease. Texture-based methods can be explored to classify regions of interest (ROI's) into emphysematous areas and normal areas. In this work we evaluated the importance of a set of parameters in the classification of lung CT images, such as the size of the ROIs, the quantization level, and textural features used in classification. A support vector machine was used as classifier. The performance of the designed classifier was evaluated using a 10-fold cross validation method and the results compared based on overall accuracy, sensibility and specificity. This study shows that textural features have a good discriminatory power in the classification of lung emphysema in CT images.

Abstract
Documentation is an important part of the captured knowledge of a software project, providing a flexible and effective way of recording informal contents. However, maintaining documentation's consistency requires a considerable effort. Existing solutions encompass different tools and approaches that support the process of creating, evolving and using documents and other artifacts derived from the software development process. Based on existing literature and expertise, we have identified the key problems and solutions for documentation consistency. In concrete, four distinct patterns and their relations were identified, which are here described - Information Proximity, Co-Evolution, Domain-Structured Information and Integrated Environment.
